Automated Formers are not building roads
I noticed in my own territory that my auto-Formers were not building roads. And I was just checking out one of the other factions with a naval ship I've been sending around the continent and they don't have any either. Just a few stretches here and there.
Re: Automated Formers are not building roads
Yes you are right and actually I wanted to post on this, thanks for reminding me
AI not beeing able to build serious road network is I think a little lame. Road may be a double edge teraforming as it helps your troop to go to the front line, but it also significantly raise the speed of a conquering army into your territories. A Human player will minimize the risks by only building roads on strategic location between cities and defending them with units and fortress, but teaching that to an AI is probably really hard. Nevertheless AI should build road, at least to connect their cities.
This brings me to my second point : Because AI doesn't build road on their own territory, I very often send myself a couple of former in the territory of a faction I intend to conquer, slowly building a road that my troops will use to blitzkrieg my enemy. Once he road is finished I declare, get the first strike on nukes and artillery and it just a matter of few turn to conquer that faction. I know it's a kind of abuse but game won't penalize a player to do it...
It's also possible to destroy or alter other faction territories improvement with who you have open border, for example by spreading large quantity of fungus in their lands, without the AI reacting at all...
Modifying other faction land should not be possible, or be considered as an act of war, or at least seriously deteriorate the diplo relation with that faction.

Re: Automated Formers are not building roads
They could just use the Civ 4 system where an invading army doesn't get any benefits from an enemy's roads. It's a little silly that they set it up so that the AI doesn't have any roads at all. That severely limits their own forces.boulugre wrote: Road may be a double edge teraforming as it helps your troop to go to the front line, but it also significantly raise the speed of a conquering army into your territories.
I agree. In fact, I find it rather odd that I can build anything outside of my borders. I guess I've gotten used to Civ 4, where the only thing I can build is a road. But not inside an opposing civ's borders.Modifying other faction land should not be possible, or be considered as an act of war, or at least seriously deteriorate the diplo relation with that faction.
Re: Automated Formers are not building roads
Yeah I thought about that. Although its not very realistic, right now the gameplay would improve if the defending faction get some kind of advantages. Right now the only advantage is the city defences (which are quite formidable, but force you to stake your troops to beneficiate from the operation defense bonus) while the attacking faction get's first strike with nukes/bombardment, artillery and units, can position their troop very easily before declaring, take cities on first turn of war etc etc...Belanos wrote:

I agree that road should not provide movement bonus to attacking units and declaring war should also automatically move hostile units out of the territories when declared.
Re: Automated Formers are not building roads
You mean it doesn't? That's quite the exploit. With enough manpower, you could take down an entire faction in no time.boulugre wrote: ... and declaring war should also automatically move hostile units out of the territories when declared.
