Small LF units BG of 4 too small ?

Post by Keith »

I had 3 small LF BG's of 4 last night.
Slingers, Javelins and Bows.
I think they were quite useful , getting in the way of the enemy , stopping them double moving etc.
But if one BG is lost it's 2 attrition points , so risky to throw them away ? Is that right ?

Do skirmishers have to pass a CMT to make a difficult move ?
Not really sure about "difficult moves" ?

A BG of 4 LF only fires with 2 dice max , so their shooting isn't that great , if both dice hit , then you might cause a cohesion test on a BG of 4 or 6 ? 1HP3B ?

Small BG's of skirmishers can be usefull but rarely have a big impact on the game until they die. I tend to use BG's of 6 unless they are handgunners.

The big problem with a BG of 4 is that one base lost and you are -1 on cohesion tests.

Your second issue seems to be confusing a lot of people. There are two types of moves, simple and complex. All troops have to make a CMT to make a COMPLEX move.

One particular type of advance is DIFFICULT, difficult moves are only COMPLEX for other undrilled troops so skirmishers can make difficult moves till the cows come home.

Skirmishers only need to test if they want to turn 180, move upto 3MU and turn 180 again. This move can include a wheel or short move because for skirmishers even a difficult move is SIMPLE.

Confused yet :D

The sie you take for skirmishers depends on how you plan to use them....

Shooting fest vs other skirmshers go for 8s, purley to slow down or screen 4s are fine. The answer depends on your tacical intent.
