Creating a new faction

Hi there,

I'm about to create a new faction. What files exactly do I have to create/alter?

So far I have created a leader portrait "Hive.png" and the icons "HiveIcon.png" and "HiveIcon16.png" in Data\Video\Textures\Factions and an icon "FactionHive.png" in Data\Video\Textures\Icons\WorldParameters. I have also described the faction within "Hive.xml" in Data\World\Factions. Then I edited the city names (<entry name="Hive0" value="The Hive"/> <entry name="HiveCount" value="1"/>) within "Cities.xml" in Data\Core\Languages\{English,German}. I also have created the faction's tags within Factions.xml in Data\Core\Languages\{English,German} - I copied the nine Industrious tags and renamed them to Hive (e.g. from <entry name="Industrious" value="Solar Dynasty"/> to <entry name="Hive" value="The Hive"/> and so on.

However, this doesn't seem to be enough. When I start the game now, I got the error Error: "Faction/Hive" does not exist.

What am I missing? I'm running Pandora 1.1.2.

Hello blackarchon, you also have to add the language strings like faction and leader name to Data/Core/Languages/[Language]/Factions.xml.

Expanding on the original question and your response .... Does this mean that a SEVENTH faction is possible and playable in 1.12 ???

Thanks for the hint - I just forgot to uncomment one of my new sections.
This also answers your question, arraamis: Yes, it is possible - I have now seven factions to choose from. Now I'm on my way to 14 certain factions which some of you may know... :wink:

"Choosing from" is one thing, is it possible to start a game with 8 or more active factions in the game?

You mean how to overcome the limit of a maximum of six players in a game? Well I don't know. But I think this shouldn't be so difficult for the creators of the game.

Yeah, I meant to say "7 or more" not 8. But you obviously knew what I meant.

Roooh thats sounds awesome! :P

Do you plan to release some kind of mode later on?

Yes, this is planned. But I fear that without a Pandora SDK it won't be possible to implement such features as psi combat.
