Colonies and Conquest - Japanese

Post by ravenflight »

Hi All,

I'm building a list for Colonies and Conquest - Japanese. I want to go to the earlier periord with horse archers.

The list so far is:

Now, with this and 3 troop commanders I have spent 749 points.

My question is now, what to do with the remaining 50 points.

I see three options:

1 BG of Hamamoto Foot Guards;
a field commander (useful if I wanted to outflank with the mounted Samurai I guess); or
(insert options from the cast and crew at the Field of Glory forum)

There are a few options out there I guess. I can increase the armour of that one BG of Ashigaru that is unarmoured etc.

What think you?

I must admit I prefer this as a foot based army and tend to go for less mounted. That said, from the experience I've had this may be helpful:

Go for the 4th commander if you can, remember you can't make divisional moves with your Warriors. Sadly, in the Horse Archer period it has to be an ally.
A GC has always been very useful with this army as the Warriors are on a -1 for CMTs and helps with the test for 2 hits by artillery.
I find the foot Samurai more useful in 6s. The 8s are very solid but the 6s are more manouvrable. It depends on what you're likely to be fighting, but if you're looking at contemporary Western opponents, being able to fight Kiels with 2 BGs (one in front and one in the side) is very useful.
The Hatamoto Guard is usually a star performer for me, they can take on nearly anything.

Spend it on the Hatamoto foot. One benefit of this army is "more heavily armoured foot than most". So if you have lots of those the opponent will want to conentrate force against them, giving your cavalry room to manouvre
