Hi all, just want to check it seems that the "upgrade" cost for tanks etc costs exactly the same as buying a new unit?
I'd have thought it would cost the difference between the prestige cost of the old unit and the new unit?
Am I missing something obvious?

Generally costs of upgrading a unit and buying a new one are same with the exception of the so called "in family upgrade" If you upgrade units in the same "unit family" then you only pay the difference in costs between them. Some families are quite obvious like for example the Panzer IV family where you need to pay only the difference in costs to upgrade from Panzer IV D to E. Upgrading from outside of the family like f.e. from Panzer III to Panzer IV costs the full price. Upgrading from Pz III H to Pz III J on the other hand would be another "in family" upgrade and would cost only the difference.

Another families are a bit trickier to spot. For example all normal towed artillery, not the nebelwehrer tho, belongs to the same family. Standard infantry, the grenadier and their 43 counterparts belong to the same family but pioneer do not. If in doubt when upgrading double check the costs and it will be pretty fast obvious for you if you are upgrading within the same family or not.

As an aid, a while ago I made a large image displaying the unit families and rough introduction dates for the equipment. You can use it to plan ahead upgrades for your units. I put it on sendspace March last year, amazingly it still gets the occasional download. I've not produced a 'final' version yet, so it is still labeled as a 'beta' version.
