Azincourt had not been decisive. The war went on and by 1421 had settled into sieges and raids. The French (Armagnac) field army was slowly being reconstituted around a core of Scottish troops led by John Stewart, the earl of Buchan. On 21 March, Thomas, duke of Clarence, Henry V's brother, was campaigning in Anjou when he was alerted to the presence of enemy troops near Bauge. Without waiting for the return of his archers on foraging missions, he rushed ahead with his men-at-arms to seek battle. As he stormed the town however, Scottish and French forces, heavily outnumbering him, converged.
Designer's notes:
The English force was wiped out in desperate fighting against superior numbers. Clarence and a significant number of nobles were slain.
The scenario features an attempt at modelling limited urban fighting.
The English player needs to plan his defense very carefully. He has superior troops but they need to be in the right position when the onslaught comes. He will be ahead most the game and can win big. The Scottish player needs to survive early heavy losses and look for the elusive breakthrough that will win the game in the later turns.
