What convention do people use for rivers? Does the river bank count as part of the river, so can't be further than 6 MU from the table edge? Or do we just measure to the water's edge?
I want to create a dual purpose river/coast and don't want to "break the rules".
I was planning to cut the piece 7" wide with the riverbank/coastline modeled. The other side would have an overlay for use as a river when applicable.

Re: modelling rivers
I would model any way I want to, but I would be sure to inform my opponent on what is 'forbidden territory'.gozerius wrote:What convention do people use for rivers? I don't have my rules handy (packed in a box) but whatever the distance a river or coast could be 'in' from the edge, anything 'toward the edge' of that distance would be 'forbidden territory'. Now, if you model your coast/river to have a beach or rocky shore etc, that's fine, do what you like, but the 'forbidden line' whether inclusive of the 'forbidden line' or not must be clear and pointed out at the time of deployment.
So, it would be somehting like:
"Here is my coast, the beach is counted as being water so you can't walk on it. The only area you can walk on is the flocked green bit"
If you did this, you would have to make sure that your 'green flocked bit' was following the rules of how far a waterway or coast could be.
Hope this helps.
Re: modelling rivers
The riverbank would be the defensible 1MU strip along the edge of the water. The rules are unclear whether the bank counts as part of the river terrain piece. I hope to make my gullies in a similar fashion, with a raised piece with a depression cut in it to represent the gully feature. The raised edge would be 1 MU wide so that anyone reaching that would be able to "see into the gully" although the actual gully would be the edge of the depression. Might run afoul of the "must be touching the edge" clause. I want to be able to put something better on the table than the usual felt patches. I just picked up some sheets of "water" from Plastruct, and have made a nice little (impassable) lake/ (difficult) marsh.
