River Line MP Scenario

Post by AEWHistory »

I just started playing MP on my iPad. While I enjoy it there are some issues I have with the scenarios, particularly with this one. It gives a force selection screen but no forces can be selected. I have assumed that this means it is just informational, but in playing the scenario I found the Germans have at least 6-8 tanks and some other heavy units such as tank destroyers. The French have, I believe, one tank and one mobile artillery unit. I find this decision curious since the French didn't lack for armor. In fact, on the whole, the French armor performed better than their German counterparts. The French lacked in a variety of other areas such as doctrine, control of the air, and so on. So I don't understand why this was done in this scenario (the other Franco-German scenarios seem to have the same general balance).

Was this done because the French dispersed their armor? Is this a play balance issue? (if anything I feel it makes these scenarios less balanced). Or another reason perhaps?

I should say that there are things about this game that I like immensely. This is the first game I have come across in years that puts something even close to squad leader on the computer. The general feel for how French armor was (often) slower than their German counterparts is recreated well (even when top speeds were similar to the Germans transmissions, brakes, and other factors limited the speed at which the French deployed mechanized assets). These are a couple examples where I feel Slitherine has done a very nice job. I would like to see this built upon from here and the game turned into a 21st century squad leader.

thanks!

As I understand it, it does indeed reflect the poor C2 that the French suffered from. Individual french tanks of the time were much tougher than their German counterparts, and so the scenario design needs to be done to reflect the strategic problems that the French suffered from.
