Window-shopping Scenarios

Post by Hoplite1963 »

Over in the Beta forum for “Decline & Fall” “Old Warrior” has made available a preview scenario which lines up all the battle group images that will ship with the module, with one or more lines for each folder working through each folder from the top down in the order they appear in the module with the battle groups lined up from left to right in the order that they appear in the folder from top to bottom.

This sort of thing (Which HPS has also done for some of its games) is very useful for a number of reasons, if you have the module you can use it to windows shop for battle groups to use in scenarios you are designing and simply looking at what is available on mass can suggest possibilities for new armies and custom scenarios that you would not otherwise have thought of.

With a Beta test you of course have to be in the beta to view the images, however the same is not true for a module once its published since if you set the preview scenario up to be playable in theory (two sides, side two with 1 CinC only and side one with all the other images and 1 and only 1 CinC) it then becomes a custom scenario which anybody can open as a head to head custom battle vie “new game” even if they don’t have the module, indeed you can then see exactly what in the way of battle group images you would get with the module and decide if you want to by it.

I have so far created two such scenarios which can be accessed via the link below.

To start with I have done one for the basic FOG game and another for “Rise Of Rome” simply looking at the Indian figures all line up with their bullock drawn chariot and all those rectangular shields made me think about Sumerians while I got Assyrian ideas from looking at some of the Classical and Hellenistic Greeks.

I will do more of these as I have time in between other scenarios with “Immortal Fire” next on my list. Enjoy and if you don’t own “Rise Of Rome” just remember to access my preview scenario for it via “New Game”

Enjoy
Ian

Here is the next preview scenario covering the “Immortal Fire” module which has been updated so it can be opened and viewed as a head to head game

There is no point in doing any more of these until after “Decline & Fall” is released as I know from participating in the Beta that all the other Field Of Glory Modules share one or more image folders with “Decline & Fall” and are therefore likely to gain extra images when the whole game is updated for the “Decline & Fall release.

Enjoy and remember if you don’t own the “Immortal Fire” module you will have to open the scenario as if your going to play it as a head to head custom scenario.

Regards
Ian

Hi
Sorry about that. The reason the Imortal Fire scenerio will not open is that I had not turned all the CinC factors off, I have now done this and will post the revised version over the weekend and put a new link in place.

Thanks for pointing this out.

Link to working scenerio now in place. You will find that it takes quite a long time to open as there are so many battlegroups to view :-)

Enjoy

Doing these has got a whole lot easier with the new 1.72 patch as only are needed now, one for each of the Ancient, Other & Medieval top level folders. Click the link below to download a set of 3 special preview scenarios which enable you to view each and every battle group available for use by the “Field Of Glory Digital” scenario designer. If you have the latest patch (1.72) will mow only need the basic game and one (any one) of the expansion modules to gain access to all of these images when designing your own scenarios.

If you have “Field Of Glory Digital” and at least one expansion module you can view these using the “Edit Scenario” button. However if you just have “Field Of Glory Digital” and have not bought and installed any expansion modules yet, you will need to click on “New Scenario Battle” and look for the scenario in “Custom Game”. Once you have found it then set it up to play as a human verses human game. Each scenario has 1 battlegroup set up for side 1 and the rest for side 2. Be warned as each of these scenarios contains many hundreds of battle groups they will take quite a while to open.

Enjoy

Building a Sumerian, Babylonian, or Assyrian based scenario a great idea. The Stele of Vultures has an interesting depiction of Sumerian army, spearman and pre-chariots, more like carts drawn by an extinct ancestor of a mule or horse.
