ITC Rome, 30th and 31st August, 2014 – FoG:R ?
After many successful years in Lisbon, the ITC is moving home in 2014 to Rome, with the tournament arranged for the above dates.
With FoG:R now established as a successful rule set the organisers are looking at the possibility of including a Renaissance competition starting in 2014. To gauge whether this should be taken forward they are asking for expressions of interest from possible attendees.
The competition format would be similar to the existing successful format used for FoG:AM, and DBM, etc. before that. Thus it would be a Team competition with teams of players representing individual countries competing in a Swiss Chess format tournament.
As the FoG:R competition scene is (probably) smaller than the FoG:AM scene it seems unlikely that teams of 4 players as in the FoG:AM competition would be practical and so an initial suggestion is for teams of 2 players with 2 pools of armies, possibly split C16th and C17th or some similar divide. Details would be finalised if it proves a FoG:R competition is practicable. Larger teams are certainly possible if places can be filled, again, something to be finalised if a competition can go ahead.
A minimum of 6 teams would be needed for the competition to be considered viable, and no country would be able to field more than 1 team - the UK is one country for the purposes of the ITC. Please note that this is non-negotiable; however, a single scratch/"barbarian" team may be allowed if this was needed to reach 6 teams (and thus run the competition), or to make the number of team entries an even number (if over 6).
So, could people who are interested, or think they could organise a team, please get in contact ASAP. A decision either way will be made early next year, but there should be a couple months available before that happens. Feel free to post interest here or use my email addy in my signature. Likewise if there are any questions ask away and I'll do my best to answer them, however, please remember that at this stage the emphasis is on determining whether or not FoG:R would be viable at the ITC and not in the detail of how it might run.

Well, I for one would like to see something like that on the calendar, however I'm not sure this is a good month in the years calendar to launch it.
Britcon and Koblenz in the same month.
cheers

Odd, on the Italian FoGAM forum, we seem to think the date is 30/31 August...

30/31 is indeed correct - thanks for the heads up. Title changed.

I think part of the idea on timing is that if it is close to those events players coming from afar may be able to have an extended European holiday with a bit of gaming thrown in. Previously it has run early September. Venue availability may have been a factor as well I guess.
However, it will be moot either way if there isn't enough FoG:R interest ...

Hi Nik,
I will be FogAMing this year at ITC, but, if FoGR is offered next year, I'm in.

Must admit the whole thing looks rather moot at present.

Is that because of lack of takers from the UK or lack of teams from the rest of the world?nikgaukroger wrote:Must admit the whole thing looks rather moot at present.
If the latter is there a realistic chance things will change next year?

Well, its hardly been a mad rush from the UK but there have been some, almost nothing from the rest of the world. I can't see this changing next year to be honest.
