SPM v. 0.7.11 is now available

Post by Nacho84 »

Hello all,

The latest update for SPM is now available. Just like SPM v. 0.7.9 and 0.7.10, the new update is available for you to download directly from the Matrix FTP: ftp://beta.matrixgames.com . When prompted, please specify the following username and password: SPMBetaTester/SpmBeta1114. I strongly recommend you to download the file using filezilla.

Inside the FTP you will find a rar file, just download it and overwrite your current installation with its contents. Notice that you need to have your installation updated to at least SPM v. 0.7.8 first in order for it to work properly. If you didn't install any update from 0.7.9 onwards, don't worry, since 0.7.11 is a comprehensive patch and already includes those changes, but please make sure you have updated to 0.7.8 first. Please refer to this link which features a step-by-step guide on how to perform the patching process.

Alternatively, you can use the installer file named SPM-Windows-Slitherine-0-7-11.exe located in the FTP. This file will write the contents of the update into whichever directory you specify.

About the update itself, we have added the Apollo missions, tweaked the Gemini missions data scripts, fixed some glitches reported at the forums and implemented some of your suggestions regarding usability. As always, you can find the full changelog here.

Please, let us know what you think!

Cheers,

Just bought it. Patches are huge, Fist, downloaded setup file - then 0.7.8 with the same weight. Now this 0.5 gb ... If there is some crappy flash animations inside, instead of real documentaries - i will be really disappointed ...

Saturn Second Stage Animation Blanks Out

Post by cptbill911 »

When viewing the second stage ignition of the Saturn 5 the animation blanks out like a flash bulb. Have viewed this several times with the same result. You can see the main stage then the flame from the second stage but it is not visible when fired off. The countdown for the ignition also needs to be changed as the voice says the engines are running when nothing is being shown on the animation until the very end. Match the vocals to the animation.

Bear with us. Once Slitherine resumes activities at the beginning of January we'll re-master the installer and the patching process will become simpler. The process is a bit involved at the moment, but it was the only option we had if we wanted to keep providing patches during the Christmas break.

I hadn't notice the white flashing, I'll check that out. We'll tweak the audio as well, I'll add this to the backlog.

Played for awhile. Really disappointed. And crappy animations was just small portion of it. You ruined the 'barris' logic, - for example; There is some Lunar mission : Zond 5, that become available relatively early. But it includes 'Soyuz' craft - that was actually designed as 3 MAN CRAFT. All missions before launching 3 man at orbit with Soyuz can be just a part of Soyuz test launching program. And i am not even send a one man capsule at suborbital at this point. Thats so ruined ... BARRIS was history equipment oriented, and you are cheap flash game oriented. On current stage - this is a complete failure. Space planes landed on squids ... Got help ... Its a pain to look at. And on a mission plan for spaceplane launch too...
You course leads into danger, Gentleman's . Wanted to make video, but best what i can do for this game - had my mouth closed , anywhere, but, on beta forums (where i am). You really should reconsider approach to this game. I don`t know, at least hire some consultant, if you find history of space exploration so disgusting.

Can you elaborate on this one? The X-15 in the game lands on skids, just like the real space plane did.

The airstrip was replaced by a dry lake bed several updates ago. I suggest you to update to the latest version.

Well, the game is still ongoing. As far as the Zond and historical accuracy goes, take into account two factors:

1) So far only the sandbox mode is available, which afaik is supposed to give the player more freedom of choice (like running both soviet and US hardware) at the cost of historical accuracy. The campaign mode, from what I know, will be much more historical-oriented, with events and the space race. So afaik teh campaign mode will be much more like the original BARIS, while the sandbox mode is by definition oriented differently.

2) As far as I know, not all hardware varieties are available yet. The Soyuz itself is not in the game yet, so its not part of the requirements tree yet.

So yeah, let's wait and see how the campiagn mode will turn out. I would share much of your dissapointment if the campaign mode wouldn't differ from the sandbox mode, so far it doesn't seem taht thsi will be the case.
