I did this once, but I didn't anticipate the 16 credit upkeep. That was a fun surprise!

Did you got tech for "defeating" it this way?

16 upkeep for a 2-move sea unit? Ouch! Has anyone actually managed to get one into combat?

Yes, you still get the aspidoch tech for doing this. The 16 upkeep hurts a lot obviously, but a 38 strength unit with +50% strength when defending is no joke. It also killed a couple of Leviathans and got me their techs, as well!
