Sneak Peak II: More Editor Goodies!

Post by pipfromslitherine »

Escaping over the wire come two new videos of the BA2 editor in action. Andrew has been working hard on adding new features making it easier than ever to build your own maps. Note that hese are from as-is, in-development builds. Details below!

Random Maps
Check out early versions of the random map plugins working in the editor - already looking great. But even more exciting, they are a stepping stone to a fully-featured skirmish mode. You'll be able to play fully random scenarios, or choose custom layouts and OOB. You can then share the codes for any random battles you especially enjoy!

Achievement Tool
Automated script construction of the most common achievements. The list of script-free map features just keeps growing... :)

Enjoy!

Cheers

Hi, I am brand new to these forums. My son is an avid Battle Academy player (not me, so please forgive my ignorance). He plays on both ipad and PC. The latest Youtube video looks incredible. We would like to know if it is possible to create your own landscape and battles. Kind of like a sim city meets WW2, done Slitherine/ Matrix style. Will that be possible with Battle Academy 2? Is there any kind of editor in Battle Academy 1 (AKA the original) that will allow a player to build his own landscape and battlegrounds? Your YouTube clip is very inspiring. Thank you.

Yes you can use the editor in Battle Academy to create maps and campaigns but BA2 will have more features and be easier to use. Check out the modding section of BA to see what guys are doing!

Do you mean that the links don't work, or that the vids themselves won't play once you get to Youtube? I don't know how that would be - Youtube does all the format work AFAIK, so not sure what we could even do to stop it working...

I will look into it.

From Google it seems like it's an issue quite a few people have with OSX and Safari. Have you tried via Chrome? I see solutions revolving around reinstalling Flash or the like, but it's not something I have had to deal with myself.

Rats - the video was too blurred on my PC to be able to read any of the dialog boxes that were opened. But anything to automate the scripting process is a step in the right direction. Thanks a BUNCH Andrew! :D :D

This is my work around with problems dealing with YouTube website:

1. Open up the page in YouTube you want to watch.

2. Right click on the screen and select View Source.

3. Edit -> Select All -> Copy the text

4. Go to this link:

http://kibase.com/YoutubeDownloaderAdv.html

5. Paste the text into the dialog box.

6. Select Open With a viewer of your choice.

The video will display in your viewer.

I am unable to load up YouTube videos in Firefox. IE is a pain to work with so I do not even bother with it. Chrome was having limited success too.

Not sure what happened but am noting a lot of problems with YouTube viewers noting the same problem. Go to YouTube page and they get a blank screen or the vid won't load. Must have something to do with Flash but I do not have the patience anymore with it. From what I heard earlier this year they are going to come up with a new web viewer and Flash will go bye bye. Cannot remember where I read this and enough "Off topic" from me! :D

Will the editor allow creating battles where every side can deploy freely over predesigned tiles ? In a easy way I mean, without scripts... Only marking tiles, those for germans: those for soviets...

Another question. Will the editor allow modifying (easily again) ammo (or shots) and morale? For example to simulate a battle with a side surrounded with low chances to survive...

I'm looking forward to seeing BA2. When Pip??? :D

Thanks

Deployment currently works using the visible tiles for a side - so you can deploy into any tile you initial units can see. We aren't planning to allow arbitrary deployment tiles.

Again, no plans to allow for tweaks to ammo or morale from the editor. Those kinds of things tend to be very specific to each scenario. That said, I have heard tell of time of day stuff which does some of that kind of thing automatically... :)

Can't wait until beta testers and scenario makes get their hands on this. The new editor will get me back into making scenarios again.
