Italy Scenario

Post by firefoxgs »

I played the Italy scenario at the lieutenant level and managed to eke out a victory, holding all of the objectives on the Italian mainland. I noticed, however, what I think is a flaw in the AI: The Allies took all of Sicily and then, on three occasions, attacked with armor across the Messina Straits. Aside from using armor in the vanguard of an amphibious landing, the attacking/defending ability of the armor did not seem to be impeded by the armor being on boats. Nevertheless, all three armor attacks (one unit at a time) were beaten back, with some difficulty. I would modify the scenario so that it is possible only for infantry to attack. Lastly, this has been said elsewhere I think by other commenters, so it is not an original thought: The sergeant level always seems to be a turkey shoot for the Axis player, for any scenario, while the lieutenant level is a challenge.

I moved the Topic out of AAR to the general PC discussion area where it rather belong.

Sergeant level is meant to be very easy:
- Enemy has -5 strength on all units
- You get x2 prestige
- Enemy gets <1/2 x prestige
- Experience etc. in your favour.
- +5 Turns

Whereas Lieutenant:
- Player: 150% Prestige
- AI: 80% Prestige
- AI: 80% Experience

So, the idea of Sergeant really is just to let total beginners learn the game, or if you want to get a ton of prestige in a year of the GC (In '42 East I played on Sergeant with v1.13 and scored over 100k)

About the boats, as far as I know the Straits of Messina tile is coded as a "Sea" tile with a road bridge over it, allowing it to be used by land units. It is a bit silly that they don't treat the tile as using boats rather than a bridge, but as far as I know it is the only tile in the whole game (probably including GC) that is like this, and the devs probably saw it as not worth adding a whole new boat script for 1 tile (even though this feature would be useful to some modders).

Thanks for the information. After posting, I realized my criticism was similar to a similar complaint that beta testers made for Civil War II, in which the 1st Georgia Cavalry took Fort Sumter. With that game, they may have made some modification.
