Greetings from a rainy Sweden,
I have been playing tabletop games for some time...starting out with GW`s games as a kid...and then onto ADSL and those "blip-type" games...But as I grew older I found out how much I missed modelling and painting my own force, so I took up "tabletopping" again...for some years now I have been plaing "Flames of war" (15mm WWII miniature game), and had much fun with it, but since I´ve grew tired of painting tanks I´m looking for a good wargame set in ancient times...I´ve narrowed my search down to 3 games (I want to play 10mm or 15mm scale): Warmaster ancient, DBM/ DBA and this "Fields of glory"...I must say that this game seems to be the most inspiring (but maybe that is beacuse I enjoy Ospreys books that much)...but before I order all the books I would like to know a bit more about the game...the official website doesn´t really go into game mechanics...
If someone would be so kind as to explain the game and how it works (in rough terms of course)...what is uniqe with this game...how does it differ from warmaster and DBM/ DBA...any pros with this game as opposed to the others e t c...any information would be greatly appriciated...thanks in advance...
...and yes...links to good miniature retaliers for fields of glory would be equally appreciated...

I am going to let someone else explain the basic game mechanics. There ought to be a one pager on it but I do not remember having seen this.
They are VERY good rules, i think you will llike them
15mm figure manufacturers... Corvus Belli are probably the finest 15mm figures out but they only do a fairly small range. Very good carthaginians though if that interests you??
Xyston 15mm especially their hellenistic and persian ranges are suppossed to be excelent. I have some on order so can't confirm yet.
I wouldn't bother with DBM if you are just going into ancients. If you had been using them for years then maybe. DBA is actually a fun little game for very small number of troops that can be played very quickly.
FOG much better but will need a lot of troops and at least 3 hours to play

As to miniature retailers it really depends on scale and the armies you are interested in.
Hmmm, a comparative analysis of DBM/A, Warmaster and FoG, you don't want much then? 
To get a feel for the last two you could do worse than visit the Madaxeman site which has excellent reports from competitions with analysis of the rules. Tim also does reports from DBM comps but as these have been going for years you won't find much analysis of the rules recently.
