Historic unit values

Post by 4p0int »

Is there anyway to change unit values for historic maps? I will use the ME163 Komet as an extreme example. The Komet had a few mere minutes of powered flight, and a range of about 20 miles. It was a point defense weapon. But in the game( if a average hex is 20 miles),it has a range of 14 hex's per turn, and a flight time of 30. The reason I ask is, i'm putting together an Idea for a bombing Germany mod. That, and the ability of AIR units to (when they make contact with enemy air, either direct or ZOC) to engage in combat and then continue on their flight plan, much like recon units, so to speak! :)
Thanks

You can change unit stats to your liking of course by editing the file "equipment.pzdat" in the data folder. Just make a backup before.

Such a change will go for any map you play using that eqp. file - if you're asking if there's a way to have different stats for different or just for specific maps, that's not possible I'm afraid unless you want to go through the hassle juggling around different eqp files for individual maps.

Couldn't you make a "mini campaign" for each map? This should allow to have different "equipment.pzdat" file for every of the campaigns which would be just a single map. I know its kind of overkill and it would not work for multiplayer but it would make juggling the equipment files for different maps easier.

Thanks for your help guy's.
So would it be possible to move a B-17 from Bomber to Recon also? If I change the units stat's, will it work with an MP game, when my opponent has not changed their stat's?
Thanks again. :)

Yes you can modify your equipment file as much as you like even for multiplayer but it has some caveats. For your modified equipment file to take effect you will have to issue the challenge for the game. Whoever will try to accept it will see a warning that you have a modified equipment file and a lot of people in random games tend to ignore such games as they have no idea what kind of changes you have done. Obviously if you setup a game upfront with someone who trust you changes it will be fine.

As for your particular idea of moving a bomber to recon class it may have some side effects. I am not that experienced in modding here but i suspect the bomber will be considered ground unit so may be affected by ground ZoC and similar for details about stuff like that tho you need someone with more experience in modding then me.

Never modded recon planes myself, but IIRC others did. I' assume if you move the bomber into the recon unit class, but leave its movement type unchanged (so as "air") it would work.

You can also add heroes with stat changes to units on a map, and change their fuel and ammo status with the scenario editor.

If you want to make a B17 recon, I would add the 'reconmove' trait to it in the equipment file, so it can stay in the bomber class. BTW, if you apply this trait to a recon unit it will lose the recon move.

Now there's a great idea! 8) Add a couple of path finder units (air) to the unit class(recon)! Then you could leave the rest alone! Send them ahead of the Bomber/Fighter stream. And it would be Historic, because they did exist, for both ground and air recon! Could that be done in a game update?
