Gebirgsjägers
Does anyone have any thoughts regarding a Gebirgsjäger unit abilities (if created) in the game system?
I think the best way to describe our operations to date is that they have violated every recognized principle of war.

Re: Gebirgsjägers
Well, I hate heights too, guradsman.
But seriously, as I develop some Tunisia scenarios, there is a German Gebirgsjägers Regiment present at a couple of the battles. Now some of the battles are in mountainous, rough terrain, and in bad weather. The nutshell definition of them is
"The Gebirgsjäger (mountain hunter) is an elite light infantryman
trained in mountain and arctic warfare. They are proud
of their traditions and have a very high espirit de corps and
maintain good morale whether fighting in mountain or arctic
conditions, or fighting in other situations. The individual
Gebirgsjäger is fit and strong due to hard training and having
to carry much of his own equipment when campaigning."
So my question is should I give Gebirgsjäger Infantry a movement allowance similar to Scouts, or maybe a little less, or if there is a way to reduce the movement cost for rough or mucky terrain. Or, alternatively, if everyone thinks this is unnecessary for Gebirgsjäger Infantry. As well, I am curious to get opinions from people on the simulation of Gebirgsjäger Pioneer Troops. They have some Engineering Functions, but were not Fully engineers per se. Any opinions?

Re: Gebirgsjägers
Just because there aren't any mountains DOESNT mean they don't have a use. They were masters of tough terrain and could deploy them almost anywhere. They might even make it in Sub Zero Arctic conditions....guardsman wrote:Hello

Re: Gebirgsjägers
I've pretty much decided to give all light infantry 20 APs.

Re: Gebirgsjägers
wonder if they can be modified to cross cliffs, being mountain men?

Re: Gebirgsjägers
Thought about that, but that is really an Operational move, not something done in a standard tactical situation. No one gets the Pitons out and starts scaling cliffsides when the imminent possibility of direct and indirect fire exists.
In GJS terms, they could cross terrain on the Campaign map that no one else could, except Commandos or Rangers or other Mountain Light Infantry, but not on the battle map.
