Cavalry Charging Artillery with 2MUs

Post by pugsville »

The Table sonly says infantry drop a level when charged with in 2 MUs. Are Artillery subject to this? Did I miss something in the rules?

Haven't got the rules handy to check, but I believe it is only infantry that drop a level when charged from within 2MU by cavalry.

This rule was inserted during playtesting to discourage infantry (usually veterans with attached artillery) from racing up to close range of cavalry.
Deployed Artillery can't really do this with their CMT'd 2MU move, which is why they were not included in the auto-drop rule.

Only applies to infantry not artillery. Artillery charged from 2MU or within close range can not shoot before they retire though, the enemy has to start from at least medium range or further out for them to use that option, so they either just run away to the nearest friends or they stand and shoot and hope they stop the cav before they can close and kill them in melee.

If they run then the cav has a free charge in and can veer into an alternate target within 2 MU of the charge line so you kind of get a 2 for 1 with it.
