Afrika Korps Campaign Victory Conditions
I'm having trouble understanding what constitutes meeting the victory conditions in the campaign. Twice I've met the minimal victory conditions and been given a loss. What am I doing wrong?
Re: Afrika Korps Campaign Victory Conditions
Have a look at the Afrika Corps Campaign Tree. The campaign branches at Alam Halfa and only a decisive victory there will lead you to the path that leads up to India. In all other cases you end on the historically accurate losing path.
Re: Afrika Korps Campaign Victory Conditions
I understand the path. What I don't understand is why if the Marginal Victory conditions is "Capture at least one objective" and I capture eight that the game says I lost. Does it have something to do with playing at the General level?
Re: Afrika Korps Campaign Victory Conditions
Also, when the game says the mission objectives have changed, what does that mean? The victory conditions don't change.
Re: Afrika Korps Campaign Victory Conditions
Actually, sometimes they do--this was one of the more interesting innovations of AK. Which scenario in particular is giving you trouble?Postman wrote:Also, when the game says the mission objectives have changed, what does that mean? The victory conditions don't change.
Re: Afrika Korps Campaign Victory Conditions
Brevity. A marginal victory is defined as holding two objectives, so I set up a defense around the city and airfield at the top of the map. The AI doesn't even bother to attack.
Re: Afrika Korps Campaign Victory Conditions
Ok, I figured it out.
I opened Brevity up in the scenario editor. The northernmost city is neither a primary nor a secondary objective.
Question: when playing the game how do I tell whether a flag marks an objective?

The flag on the main map glows, and the circle marking the objective on the strategic map is much larger.Postman wrote:Ok, I figured it out.

So, do the flags mean anything at all?robman wrote:The flag on the main map glows, and the circle marking the objective on the strategic map is much larger.
I just played Brevity again, and it gave me a loss even though I captured two primary objectives. How do I submit a bug?
Re: Afrika Korps Campaign Victory Conditions
Non-flagged hexes mean nothing other than their underlying terrain traits.
Flagged hexes earn you prestige for capturing them, or recapturing them if initially yours and then lost.
Flagged hexes that GLOW (have bright border) are victory objectives.
I checked it and you are correct, you can hold two objectives and still get a loss. I think the problem is the game is not counting Sidi Azeiz as a victory objective, though it does glow. I think it's not supposed to be an objective though it is marked as one. There is a sub-forum "Open Beta," you can make a post there and explain, or just make a note there and link to this thread so you don't have to repeat yourself.

If life is getting difficult, focus on the primary objectives (and re-read the mission objectives - the messages button confirms these. However, the secondary cities award prestige and some have captured vehicles or extra prestige (the prestige bonus cities are marked with $ sign). Unflagged cities allow full refuelling, which is pretty handy in the desert where resupply is slower, and I'm pretty sure that there is at least one AK scenario that gives a captured equipment reward for occupying one of the unflagged cities.
Re: Afrika Korps Campaign Victory Conditions
I haven't finished the campaign yet, but from looking at the campaign tree, I'd love to see a situation where the core after the AK campaign would, depending on the path, piggyback to another campaign.
What I mean is like
Tunis > Syracuse
India > SeaLion/Eastern Front
I don't know, maybe I'm rambling, but it would certainly be fun. I'd love to see some experienced, decorated Italians taking it to the Allies. I know that historically the Italians weren't very good or motivated, but I've always been intrigued by their equipment and potential...particularly their fighters and navy.
Cheers
