First Impressions - Malorn

Well, this is a good game. I played it for 7 hours without becoming bored. A few notes. The technology tree should shy away from direct upgrades. This is not to say that direct upgrades are always a bad thing, they aren't, but too much of the tech tree is just straight upgrade. I'd be very interested if I had choices, perhaps some reasons to use older units. For example, perhaps earlier ships should be faster, or some similar situation? At the very minimum insure that more powerful unit upgrades are less cost-effective (i.e. actually less bang for your buck, despite being overall far more powerful).

In either case, I very much enjoyed the operations mechanic, it was a fresh and interesting ability. However, I do feel that the direct damage operations were too overwhelming. Equally, while I adored the orbital drop operation, it lacks counters. Perhaps a terrain improvement is the solution, some kind of point defense system which intercepts drop pods and missiles a certain percent of the time.

The unit design system is a clear upgrade from the Alpha Centauri system, and I like it. The devices seem interesting and flexible, allowing for clear unit roles. Apart from the early mentioned problem with direct unit and building upgrades, the rest of the tech tree is interesting.

Overall, the game is worth buying. I hope to see some polish, but the core game is solid, and that's what beta, and even launch, is about.

You play 7hours.. and How many Technology is this game??

How to play again AI ? AI is good? Please writing something about Dyplomacy.
