Imagine, for a moment, that I manage to get a BG in contact with enemy baggage. Prior to my BG either making the die roll to sack it (if fortified), or the CMT to stop sacking it (if not fortified), an enemy BG charges my BG. What effect is there on my BG for being in contact with the enemy camp?
I have the notion that whatever bases are in contact with the camp would not contribute to the combat against the enemy BG, until and unless they make a CMT to stop sacking. But can they make a CMT die roll when the rest of their BG is stuck in melee? And what is they are fighting a fortified camp?
Also, if the enemy BG charges my looters in the flank, will my BG count as fighting in two directions?

Treat it as if you were facing that direction with a BG that required a CMT to turn.I have the notion that whatever bases are in contact with the camp would not contribute to the combat against the enemy BG, until and unless they make a CMT to stop sacking. i.e. If you were attacked in flank or rear - you would drop a cohesion level, but immediately turn to face.
If you were attacked frontally (assuming that you 'overlapped' the camp, then you fight frontally as normal, feeding extra troops in from those facing the camp.) - In neither case would you count as fighting in 2 directions.
Once you have no troops in front edge contact with the camp, you are no longer fighting (sacking) it, and so will have effectively broken off - so the camp is removed.
I have a question regarding charging baggage too. I note the victory conditions state army break is assessed at the end of each phase. This leads me to the question, "Can looters sack a camp in the impact phase?"
Could be useful when both armies are on the brink of collapse, one player is in position to sack the camp, but is also fairly certain his army will break in his combat phase. He sacks the camp in his impact phase, voila, game over!
Am I reading this right?

Per the rules, one moves to contact baggage in the maneuver phase, not impact phase.
That does bring up a question for clarification, though. Does one lose the attrition points when the BG contacts the camp or when the sacking is complete, i.e. when the sacking BG rolls its CMT to move away and the camp is removed from the board?

If the camp is unfortified it is sacked immediately. The CMT is not to sack the camp but to cease doing so.babyshark wrote:Per the rules, one moves to contact baggage in the maneuver phase, not impact phase.

Therefore if sacking the camp takes the enemy over his attrition limit, his army is broken at the end of the manoeuvre phase in which his (unfortified) camp is contacted.
