SCENARIOS BY YAMAMOTO & EROMMEL

Post by yamamoto »

I have been working on some scenarios and will begin to post them here.

I contacted Tim1966 the creator of the WWI Cambrai scenarios to get his okay to "complete" the scenarios that he had begun. As I was very impressed with the units and icons I was more than happy to work on them. My "playtest" version of the scenarios include, most importantly, objectives as well as some map work and my take on balancing both sides.

As a general rule the attacker (British) has double the amount of points vs the defender (German). The widely accepted convention for a successful assault ratio is from 3:1 so a 2:1 ratio should provide for good challenge to the attacker. It will also make it "fun" for the defender by allowing him or her to conduct limited counter attacks.

After a few weeks of playtesting with those interested in providing feeback, I will make the scenarios available in version 1.0 to all on
this forum.

IF YOU WANT TO PLAY TEST PLEASE SEND ME A PM TO GET THE GAME FILES

After some play testing with those of you that contact me I will update the scenarios and then make them available for everyone on this forum.

Thank you in advance and a great big thank you to Tim1966 for getting the ball rolling on WW1 scenarios.

:D

My first attempt at creating the LST file for the CPF file uploaded to DROPBOX has worked without any issues. I have just downloaded the games to my ipad from Dropbox and there appears to be no issues. I am hoping to get some playtesters to give me some suggestions on how to improve the game. My biggest concern off the bat is the length of the scenarios which I have set from 25 to 30 turns considering the fact that the WWI tanks are extremely slow moving and are prone to breakdown.

If you are inclined to playtesting and providing a critique please send a PM to EROMMEL or YAMAMOTO for a link to the LST file.
Once again, after a few weeks of testing I will modify the game after considering suggestions and then make the scenarios available to all.

I have also created some WW2 scenarios that I will post for playtesting once we finish with the WWI scenarios.

Done! Check your PM. Thanks MDpilot11

If the link does not work let me know. Please post your critique of the scenarios here or by PM. I'm hoping to make a great set of WWI games.

Game started and on first looks, looking damn good.

Could I ask fora couple of inclusions:

Gas - use of gas with some sort of wind variable to determine it path of movement.

Smoke - use of a lot of smoke and again a wind variable t determine its path of movement

Tunnel troops - sets of tunnelling h/e troops

Thanks for the comments on your first impression. I already have a list of updates in mind for the first scenario. The trenches on the back slope don't look so good so I'll make sure to make those better. I agree about smoke and I have that on my list of things for the update. As for gas that is not an addition that I aware of but yeah..that would be really cool. Maybe Slitherine staff could figure out how to include gas.

Thanks Daddy.

Hi, I have started by accepting a few cahllenges. Tide of iron just quit on me without a chance to do a single move. It just gave me objective failed message.

I do understand that the tanks of the era were very slow as reflected in the game play. However it would be nice if they could move faster for a smoother game. Same with Vickers MG and Mortars.

A Tide of Iron has an issue with the victory condition. The game ends on turn 1.

Please don't play this scenario till after the next update (most likely the next update will be on Sunday).

I made the play testing version for multiple player only I'm afraid. I will consider making an SP version once it becomes an "official" release.

*** SCENARIO "A TIDE OF IRON" ENDS ON TURN ONE DUE TO A MISTAKE IN THE VICTORY CONDITION***

I have fixed the issue and will update the play test scenarios next week. I would like to avoid daily updates after each bug.

So, for now, A TIDE OF IRON doesn't play but the other 5 scenarios seem to be working fine. Please let me know if you find other issues.

Here are the 6 scenarios and the description for each based on Tim1966's vision for each.

A Tide of Iron
20th November 1917. The British launch the first massed tank attack in a sector relatively unbroken by artillery to ensure unhampered movement. The artillery barrage that preceded the assault was short and sharp. A tide of iron sweeps toward the German trenches.

Heroics at Flesquieres
The Highlanders advance towards Flesquieres Ridge after an awesome shattering barrage on the targeted trenches on the ridge. German Generals anticipating an attack order the troops to dig in on the reversing slopes keeping losses at a minimum. The German ruse is called in by advancing scouts but regardless, the Ladies are ordered to press on the assault.

Scramble for the Canal Crossings
Major Canals and rivers cut across the route to Cambrai. The mains crossings at Masnieres and Marcoing are the main objectives and are needed to be controlled as quickly as possible. Understanding very well the importance of the bridges, the Germans are prepared.

Hell's Ladies Dance in Fontaine
The Highland ladies from hell advance dressed in kilt and accompanied by bagpipers. Having overcome the defences at Flesquieres the Scots enter Fontaine expecting fierce fighting. They will not be disappointed.

Das Ringen Um Bourlon
Bourlon Wood, a key obstacle on the road to Cambrai. German forces hurridly set up defences including cutting down trees to slow any advancing infantry. The Germans call this place Das Ringen um Bourlon - the Cauldron of Bourlon.

A Dirty and Noisy Place
The final objective of Cambrai lies beyond the town facing the advancing Brits. They are given orders to muster all remaining forces, reserves, and whatever few operational tanks remaining for an assault on Bourlon. The fighting at Bourlon which would would come to be known among the boys as a "dirty and noisy place" would be seared in the minds of the few survivors as hell on earth.

Hi both - when you are ready for release, please let me know and I will add to my 'sticky' for Scenarios & Mods (details in the footer of this post) - I guess you will set up a 'base'/'home' thread?
