On October 1st 331 BC, the decisive battle between the Macedonian Kingdom and the Persian Empire was fought in northern Mesopotamia near the village of Gaugamela. Alexander III defeated the last ruler of the Achaemenid Empire, Darius III who fled from the field. There would soon be a new King of Asia.
This is a modified version of GBoH's Gaugamela. I've made some changes to try to simulate the lack of command and control on the Persian side. All of the Persian cavalry (except LH, Scythians, and the two Guard units) are knights to restrict their mobility, and the Darius unit and the elephants are immobile. Thus the Macedonians have a target for their attack as they historically did, and the Persians must defend their "Great King". The deployment has been modified so that the battle begins right after Alexander has changed direction with his right wing towards the Persian center, and the rear line of Persian LF has been removed, because all they do really is up the Persian's break points. All of the Persian troops begin at 85% strength except for Darius, his Kinsmen, the Immortals, and the Greek mercenaries. I did this to reflect the low Persian morale after two major defeats, and the high morale of the Macedonians and the confidence they have in Alexander's proven leadership.
The Macedonians win by either eliminating Darius, or causing the Persians to break. The Persians win by either eliminating Alexander, or causing the Macedonians to break. A Macedonian player who eliminates Darius with his Alexander unit can reflect on his greatness, and a Persian player who eliminates Alexander with his Darius unit can consider himself extremely lucky...
If you save this scenario in the editor, even without changing anything, all the units will go back to 100% strength. These values must be modified with an XML editor.
