convoy suicide
While playing the allies against the AI, one of the autopilot convoys sailed into the captured port of Brest. Then I got the message that the naval vessel in the captured port had been destroyed. Seems like a bug that might warrant some attention in the future. It probably could happen in an email game as well.
Re: convoy suicide
convoys have always passed through Brest - its a sea hex, this is the first I have heard that one has actually finished its turn thereFalcon1 wrote:While playing the allies against the AI, one of the autopilot convoys sailed into the captured port of Brest. Re: convoy suicide
Yeah I'm not sure the game can be coded to prevent convoys entering enemy controlled ports. But if possible it should be done. Just like how a player is prevented from entering enemy ports with warships. If convoys are routinely passing through enemy port hexes, then it's just a matter of time before one ends a turn there.
Re: convoy suicide
What version are you playing? Vanilla or one of the GS versions?
Re: convoy suicide
It is GS 2.1.
Re: convoy suicide
AFAIK that has been corrected in v3.0.
Re: convoy suicide
Good to hear, thanks!
Re: convoy suicide
This has happened 2 or 3 more times in the last week for me, so it is certainly not a rare event that a convoy will end it's turn in a captured port. Happens no matter which side is the AI and more than likely will happen even in a 2 player game. Hopefully GS 3.0 addresses this.

Re: convoy suicide
I'm afraid it hasn't. I have just been on the receiving end of a convoy stopping in Brest and then self destructing.pk867 wrote:AFAIK that has been corrected in v3.0.

Re: convoy suicide
ports are sea hexes so its a dangerous fix as there will be lots of code involvedGogTheMild wrote:I'm afraid it hasn't. Re: convoy suicide
Well ports are not just any sea hex, in the game they are called "seaport". My battleship can't sail into an enemy port, so it seems that convoys could be prevented as well. But maybe not, who knows.
I just ran a few tests, and ships (other than convoys) will always avoid enemy ports, even when the shortest route to the destination would clearly go through the port if allowed. On the other hand, ships will NOT avoid empty friendly ports, they will sail right through them if that is the shortest path. Would be nice if convoys could be programmed to act the same way.

Re: convoy suicide
Are you certain about that? I frequently will run into an unspotted USSR sub in port when I move a GE BB towards Leningrad. If ships always avoid enemy ports then it seems to me the unspotted USSR sub should not be attacking the GE ship in that situation.Falcon1 wrote:I just ran a few tests, and ships (other than convoys) will always avoid enemy ports....

Re: convoy suicide
BG - I think that only happens when you try to move in on the same turn that you have captured Leningrad. Of course, I have been known to be wrong.

Re: convoy suicide
I'm sure that it was true in all the tests that I tried. The ships always went around the port. All the tests I did were around England and France.BuddyGrant wrote:Are you certain about that? Re: convoy suicide
The easiest fix would be to constrain the starting hexes for the northbound convoy to those that are not an even multiple of convoy moves from Brest.

Re: convoy suicide
Wouldn't work - there is the random element at the start of each convoy move.
