Iron crosses

Post by Brindlebane »

Just a question for anybody.I'm on my very first playthrough of a campaign-GC40.So with experience you gain awards or a hero.So does the experience reset itself when you receive an Iron Cross(or Hero) or should it stay at whatever stars it has reached.Obviously the unit will still have the bonuses it received and be a higher grade.

Just wondering because i use green reinforcement during battles and only Elite between scenarios and was wondering if i'm diluting my units in battles.

Welcome to this great game! First off experience is not tied to awards or heroes. ..

You get awarded a medal after a certain number of kills which for the 1st medal in the grand campaign is 200 strength points (I think its that number) you then get a second medal after a set number of kills and so on untill you get the last one. This kill score is also used to determine when you get a hero but unlike medals is not at a set amount but once you reach a certain threshold you get a chance to be awarded one

Experience is seperate to kill score and while you do dilute it with normal replacements in the 1940 dlc I wouldn't worry to much because experience is capped at 325

Heroes and medals aren't tied to experience at all but rather by the number of strength point kills the unit has achieved over it's life.

Therefore whether you use elite or green replacements has no bearing on their awarding, save that more experienced units will kill more and get to the next plateau quicker.

(because I'm too lazy to type I'll copy and paste from the FAQ:)

In the DLCs the range for when heroes are gained are
100-300
301-1000
1001-2000
kills.

Thanks guys for the welcome and the help.Really, really addictive game.Been doing restarts galore because i was getting too hung up with the experience issues now i see i shouldn't have if they're capped.Really like how it's implemented in the game though, you really do feel the losses in battle if one of your top units bites the dust.Looking forward to the later campaigns where i can get my hands on some better stuff.Mind you those P3s have saved my hide many a time in scenarios, the early P4s just need too much babysitting and are useless against 1940's Allied armour.Anyway, thanks again for the help

My advice is to think of your armored units as divided into "anti-tank" and "anti-infantry" types, and to deploy and use them accordingly. Early on, the P3s are better against tanks (with appropriate air and artillery support, mind you), and the P4s are better against soft targets. They will begin to switch roles once the long-barreled "F/2" model of the P4 appears. By then, you will want to have several experienced P4s ready for upgrade. Once the P4 takes over the tank-against-tank role, you can then upgrade your P3s to the anti-infantry mode (model N) and/or park them in your reserves pending upgrades to Tigers or Panthers.

Thanks for that.Yeah the P4s are great at taking infantry on.Taking 3 or 4 points a time off infantry. They do take a beating if jumped on though.Whereas the P3s can take a beating but only usually take a single point in most battles.Love the game mechanics. All new to me but i'm getting there.
