Varying BattleGroup Required Sizes for Barbarians?

I noticed that ancient Spanish BG range from 6-12 while the Gauls tend to 8-12.

Just wondering if there are particular reasons behind that?

Does anyone run the MF BGs in 6 paks? Sure would make the army manoueverable but probably brittle.

I run them in 6s in my carthaginian army. They certainly are much more brittle than the 8 base Gauls. But the extra Bgs can be worth it.

I have designed a Spanish but not tried it yet. It has some 6s in there. As a main army is allows you to have some rear support as well if you put them behind big main battle BGs.
