Hi all,
Just was wondering what might be the most popular army everyone likes to play with and why?
In Immortal fire I like the Lydian's as they are an armoured hoplite army with a strong cavalry wing.
Thanks,
Peter

Re: Peoples choice of armies
Depends on the book. My favorites are the Late Roman from Rise of Rome and also Alexandrian Macedonian from Immortal Fire. While I love the horse armies the game does not support them well enough for me to want to play with them as much as I have been doing. I am moving over to playing primarily foot armies with cavalry contingents.
Oh yes, and English 100 Years War. It is a challenge to win with them. While the Longbow can inflict a lot of losses they are weak on defense. Just ask anyone that has attacked me lately!
I like the Sassanid Empire armies too. Add in the Polish (Early or Later) and funny enough the Moravian/Wallachian armies. Serbs are fun too.
I helped playtest the Eternal Empire module and got to know those armies very well. Also worked on the Decline and Fall module too. Really enjoy the armies from the EE module. Just a lot to choose from and I really love the cavalry armies.

Byzantine armies are my favourite - ever since the early tabletop WGR/Shock of Impact days
Re: Peoples choice of armies
Most popular seem to be the spartans in immortal fire - they have a ton of superior, armoured offensive spearmen.
However THE easiest army to play as seems to be the storm of arrows swiss. Tons of superior pikemen. Unless you fight on a battlefield that has lots of hills or tough terrain (and you opponent has longbowmen or other capable medium infantry) you can run down pretty army with those guys. I rarely say that an army is overpowered in FoG (most are not) but the swiss indeed seem to be too strong. They could use more obligatory non-superior troops like medium infantry.
Generally all-horse armies (especially horse-archers) are amongst the most hardcore underpowered armies, very demanding to play as, since the maps are just on the small side and they have no room to retreat and act as RL parthians or tatars would.
Who else... Romans are always popular, though imho they aren't really overpowered. Macedonian style horse&phalanx armies seem to be popular too because they are "toolbox" armies and you can really make a nice composition of very varied troops with these with medium infntry, horse archers, elephants, etc.
