OK, our first game our first charge we ran into this question.
Line of Cav is approaching and there's a small BG of LF diagonally on the left, partly in front of the cav. The cav declare their charge and the LF evade. They elect to evade directly away from their current facing, which is diagonal to most of the other troops on the board. As it happens they must pass through a friendly group of cav (diagonally). But they cannot all make it through (even if they get an extra 2 MU). The front rank can make it through if they get the extra 2MU (and I'm not clear if they would get that) but the back rank cannot make it through. The front rank without the 2MU would end up in the middle of them, but the rear rank cannot make it even to touch the cav stands.
So what happens in this case? Does the front rank pass through but the bank rank stays until the maneuver phase? I reread the rules again after the game and still wasn't quite sure.
Thanks,
Steve

Re: Evade Question
A tricky one for the first game. I think it's covered under Interpenetrations on p 48, 6th bullet. I think the evading unit is split and is disordered. Both units are "stuck" until the split LF moves clear in a subsequent movement phase.sphallen wrote:So what happens in this case? They interpenetrate ..... see this Section
1. LF go completely through if they can do so without exceeding their normal move by 2MU. So they can add and go up to 7 and get through that way if its possible inopen terrain (note 2Mu more than normal so you don't add 2MU to a 6 VMD roll that gives you a 7MU move to get 9MU)
2. If not then bases that reach go through and bases that don't stay the other side znc they are disordered until they move away next tim, as Neil says.

The answer to the question that I was just getting ready to ask. Now that's efficiency!shall wrote:They interpenetrate ..... see this Section

If I may ask for further confirmation on the way we understand aspects of this:
1. In essence then, if the all of the bases of the rear rank of an evading/routing LF BG reach their friends (with their normal evade/rout), then the whole evading/routing BG goes all the way through regardless of how much extra move is required, i.e. "teleports" to the other end of a deep formation of friends?
2. The evading/routing LF still get the extra 2 MU to their normal move even if they rolled a 1 for their VMD, if they reach friends.
Cheers,
Steve

First they try to get through with the extra 2MU on normal move. If that applies then it takes them through. Then if not they still go through if all the rear ranks make it into the interpenetratde BG. Its not easy for b to work and a not to. With a column I guess. If I may ask for further confirmation on the way we understand aspects of this:

Yes if the 1 on VMD got them to a friendly BG they would pass completely through if a 7MU move (in th open) would make it out the other end.2. The evading/routing LF still get the extra 2 MU to their normal move even if they rolled a 1 for their VMD, if they reach friends.
Burst throughs go all the way through if they can fit and make room. They die if they can't.
