More realistic defense artillery.

Post by LandMarine47 »

I've noticed that when an Arty gun is defending it tends to be the first unit to fire. This is highly unrealistic as there would need to be some serious scout support for this. I was thinking instead of it firing how about Infantry and Artillery animation fire at the same time? It would make much more sense!

It is very realistic that that Artillery was the first unit to fire. Most of the time the attacking troops were heard moving forward either in tanks or by battle cries. It does not take much effort to pick up the phone and call the artillery to fire at a predetermined coordinates.

I think it’s ok that way. Often there had been VBs leading the artillery fire from trenches, from attics or from other places (VB means vorgeschobener Beobachter – advanced observer; or call it scout support). A vet once told me how he acted as a VB in russia.

Yes buts that an assumption you wouldn't call in Artillery when you hear engines in the distance. They may be friendly! I've never heard of calling in Artillery before shots are fired. You need to get pretty good spotting and your enemy must be slow or just plain stupid .

Its no assumption. I have read books that state the Russians tried to sneak cross open terrain with out making a sound. A German sentry fires a flare into the night sky and spots the them slowly walking cross the field and he sounds the alarm. Also each side tanks sounded different and the soldiers knew the difference.
