Dynastic turmoil following the death of Scotland's king Alexander III in 1286 allowed king Edward I to claim overlordship of the country. The English grip tightened in 1296 after the victory of Dunbar. The following year a large revolt led by William Wallace and Andrew Murray broke out. At Sterling the Scots caught the English army under John de Warenne divided as it was crossing the river Forth.

Designer's notes:

How to model a bridge -the flow of troops through it, was something I wanted to work on. Sterling Bridge is a perfect battle for this. It was very narrow and a real bottleneck and it is obvious that bridges in the game are not restrictive enough.

The battle is time sensitive. The Scots should be able to win (in 'real life') but have only 18 turns to destroy enough English BGs to win the scenario. Half of the English line is on an elevated roadway and requires good tactics to overcome quickly.
