Q about Carthaginian generals

Post by miffedofreading »

I want to use a 600 point Carthaginian army, using the “Hannibal in Italy” secial campaign options. I only have enough points for 3 X TC generals though. Normally you would field Hannibal as a IC. Is it OK as it is a 600 point army representing a detachment of Hannibal’s army, for him to not be present and all the generals only be TC’s?

Oh a 2nd Q about generals. The base is described as "cavalry". I mix inf and cav on a 40 X 40 base to represent a generals element. This is ok isn't it?

I would think the choice of generals is up to the player concerned. Personally I have a tent complete with red light to use for C-in-C in my army, and then plan on single figures for the Sub-Generals.

No you can't. The special campaign is "Hannibal in Italy from x to x" and Hannibal must be an IC.

So if you want those options you have to have an IC.

If this were not so the special campaign would be entitled "Only in Italy from x to x" instead of "Hannibal in Italy from x to x".

That is how it is intended, and it really isn't ambiguous.

We don't know what any detachments may have contained. If you want the specials you have to take the great man.

The list is quite clear on having to take Hannibal - so if playing anywhere where a strict adherence to the lists is a must, you have no choice.

If however it is just you / friends playing then you can do whatever pleases you really, no one can stop you. Nothing bad will happen.

Fair enough, I can live with that.

To be fair I am not sure it is entirely unambiguous or quite clear, as a number of quite knowledgable people thought the 3 X TC option was reasonable.

I agree though it is reasonable if you want the special army you get an IC commander, which I am happy to do with 800 points. Will have to give some thought as to whether it is practical at 600 points. I suspect not...

Thanks
