I was playing my first GS 2.1 game (as allies). During a 1940 turn I got a message "Denmark has joined the allies" and also "Norway has joined the allies". I assumed this was because Germany had invaded. At the beginning of my turn, I looked at these areas and there were no minor nation units in those countries and cities were occupied by German garrisons. The following turn there were messages about these countries surrendering. Can anyone explain this? I would historically expect at least one turn to fight the Germans in Norway?
Sorry so far I have read the original CEAW manual and only the first 50 pages of the GS manual. So if the answer is in the GS manual I apologize.

Re: fall of Denmark/Norway
I guess you play against the AI. The AI Axis will occupy Denmark and Norway at a fixed turn. That is intended since the AI otherwise would never invade these countries.
Grand Strategy is made for human vs human play. The AI is not upgraded from the vanilla CeaW.
I propose you try to find human opponents to play against. Make a post in the opponent finder thread. I would have for GS v3.0 to be released and then find an opponent. A human Axis player will have to make a manual invasion of Denmark and Norway.

OK thanks, I can see the intent of the change. Perhaps I will move on to PBEM at some point but like I said, it is just my very first game and I am still learning the mechanics.
So are you saying that the original game is better than GS for playing against the AI? What would have happened in this case? Would Denmark and Norway just stay neutral for the whole game without GS loaded?

The AI is the same in the vanilla game and GS. However, you have many options in GS that the AI won't take advantage of since there is no code to use it. E. g. paradrops, upgrade to elite units, amphibious landings. So you will probably notice the AI deficiencies more in GS than in the vanilla game.
Because of that I recommend to play against human opponents.

Re: fall of Denmark/Norway
In 3 games that I have played against the German AI, it has not yet tried to attack Greece. Maybe that could be handled in a similar way to Norway and Denmark? Maybe it could be a requirement that Yugoslavia was already under axis control. Just an idea for a future version.
Also, in my last game the German AI declared war on Sweden. Not sure if it can be coded to prevent that but it certainly didn't help their cause.

I just made it to the end of that 700 page GS manual.
Regarding the issue I mentioned above regarding the AI Germans DoW on Sweden. I see in the manual that the AI has been prevented from DoW on Switzerland by labeling them as "axis friendly" in the game data files. It may be useful to implement this same solution for Sweden. Since Sweden is sending resources to Germany, it is not much of a stretch to consider them as axis friendly. Also this would be in line with other GS features that encourage historical play.
