P+S Legal formations and feeding into melee..

If you have a 6 base p+s unit which starts impact in a single file column to the front at impact.. can it feed the one base width into melee... this would leave the unit in a 2x3 combo which is normally illegal... or are you stuck on column for the melee...

an obvious tactic to mitigate impact foot is to go into column for the impact phase and then feedbases back into the melee....

I asked a similar question recently. RBS confirmed that this is the ONLY instance that a P&S BG can be in a 2 x 3 formation.
