Any generals here like to share their experience and tactics of playing the Kursk on the Allies side at Field Marshal difficulty against AI ?
I must admit I finally won after a few days of trying.
I won by holding two objectives.
It was a bit of experience and bit of luck IMHO. At the moments AI was not playing very well forcing rivers, woods and leaving Stukas unprotected.
I tried to use advantage of the close terrain, fortifications, woods, mountains and hills and also rivers waiting the German tanks plus the support of my artillery. And this time I tried to make replacements when ever it was OK and not to purchase new units.
At the beginning the only bomber was trying to destroy any of two German artillery north of Ponyn. On the south of Rzhava I placed mixed defense setup in the woods and mountains. Next to it is Oboyan placed on the river where I used the opportunity and attacked the German artillery and tanks with all I got!
AI purchased more than ten Tigers after a few turns and the same numbers of recon after 10-12 turns. When I saw how rapidly German Tigers destroyed my defenses at south , I based my victory on saving Lgov. At the same time I have purchased tens of Soviet Cavalry in the Sevsk to try to take undefended town and airfield in the north and to help Lgov plagued with German tanks and recon units.
AI renewed damaged fighters and was trying to slow my two bombers destroying tanks and recon around Lgov.
Somehow I managed to run away and to cross a Seym River and retake the Sudhza with my Cavalry of strength 1 ! I found no defenders there except artillery next to it :)
And thats it. Now is your turn :)

SORRY FOR BAD ENGLISH

I tried it and the AI went absolutely nuts with Tiger spam. I had to give up, although I was making progress (i.e. blocking the German advance) at north and Southeast.

Speaking of which, I find Guards and especially russian armor (especially the KV tanks from which I expected more) extremely weak. The overall lack of initiative really hurts. By the time of Kursk, Russians already change their combat doctrine (for the better). I think I'll stick to Deducter's mod from now on and stay away from the vanilla campaign :)

I played this twice long ago, and yeah the Tigers sprouting up like weeds was unpleasent. But what killed me was the amount of hard hitting Reccon the Germans had all over the map. Dont recall winning and if I did hold out long enough to win, was simply cause the Germans ran out of turns to kill whatever i had left. Very hard battle to play as the Russians.
