Windows XP - EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION

Post by Kragdob »

Hello,

I encountered EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION error when trying to run CEAW 2.1.

Here is what i do:
1. Install CEAW from CD
2. Install CEAW 1.12 patch - at this point game starts normally
3. Install CEAW 2.1 upgrade from installer - after this I get a error dump as shown below.

Does anybody encountered such issue?

A question:

Does CEAW requires any JRE/JDK installations? I don't have any on my computer (having it ( v1.7.25) or not doesn't seem to help with the above error)

The java is included, so I don't think you need to install any JRE/JDK.
What's the CEAW 2.1 installer file name? is it "CEaW-112-GrandStrategy-Update-v210.exe"?

Yes, this is the file. I downloaded it from Slitherine webpage.

I suggest you to install the game again, but this use the Gold installer version that has 1.12 already included.
You'll need to email support[at]lsitherine.co.uk providing your order details (order reference number and the email address you used to place the order) and ask for a download link for the MHC Gold version.
Before installing it, please make sure that after uninstalling the game there are no files left in the folder where the game was previously installed. Delete all of them.
Then you can install MHC 1.2 and next GCEAW 2.1.

I didn't buy from Slitherine directly but rather from some retailer in Poland. It installed correctly (up to version 2.1) until this week.

Is the hardware the same? A new Windows installation?

I searched in my backups and found old snapshot of the VM that works. I managed to upgrade to version GS2.2r (3.0 beta release r). So for now I have something working.

I am going to try to run some debug on my 'fresh install' VM test instance. Right now I suspect that *exe installer collides with my machine (Win XP freshly installed, no java at all) somehow.
