interception and push forward

Post by franck »

Can an interception charge force an initial charge to push forward to it in the example below :
Shock Infantery X (facing below) wants to charge infantery A (facing above).
Cavalry B (facing above) is behind from BG A by 4 MU :
XX
XX
--
-AA
-AA

-
B
B
B
B

I hope this diagramm makes sense...

X cannot stop charging because cav B cannot intercepte directly it.
But cav B can intercepte 1 MU behind A, to force X to push forward, and thus strike cav.
Is this correct, or shall we consider that as the cav can do this move, X is not obliged to charge ?

We have recently had a discussion in another thread that has the answer. The decision was that a BG can only intercept if it would end closer to the charger than the target. B can not end closer to XX than AA because it is over 4 MU. Therefore B is not entitled to declare an interception charge. Because B does not intercept, it does not reach a position where XX can step forward into B once XX has made contact with AA.

So your scenario is one that can not legally arise.

Exactly as Zoltan said. An intercept must cross the path of the charge as declared. It cannot create a longer path

putting the arg into argumentative, except for the lists I check where there is no argument!
