MF Firing Longbow in Impact Phase

Post by Bugle999 »

Quick question...
A BG of 12 LB (6 Front rank, 6 Rear Rank) is charged by BG 4HI (2 Front Rank & 2 Rear Rank).
They contact the middle of the LB BG i.e. the centre two bases.
In the Impact Phase the LB and HI both throw 4 dice for Combat - how many extra dice does the LB BG throw for 'Support shooting' from the rear rank?
Is it 2 extra dice (i.e. their are two bases behind the LB bases 'actually fighting'
Is it 4 extra dice (i.e. the two bases above plus the additional 2 second rank LB who are in arc on either side)
Is it 6 extra dice (i.e. the 6 bases in the second rank)
I suspect the key sentance is P.98 '...shooting from A RANK behind the one fighting in the impact phase...'
A brief explanation rather than a yes/no answer would be appreciated.
Many thanks in advance.

First, as an aside, you'll never have a BG of 12 longbowmen - 8 is the maximum in any list.

As to your question the answer is that you get 2 additional dice for the rear rank bowmen - there are only 2 bases behind those actually fighting in the front rank.

See page 92 where there is a table telling you how many dice you have in combat.

Thanks Nik - it is absolutely clear in the table...derrr!
PS - I used the 12BG size example to cover two questions in one - but I hadn't actually realised there was this limit in every list - thanks again.
