Page 83 Arc of fire diagram

Post by Maniakes »

In the top diagram on Page 83 a unit is labelled "These six bases (4 dice) all shoot at battle group B". Surely this should only be 4 bases, as they are within effective range and only get an arc of one base width. Or am I missing something?

(DM) There does appear to be a typo here. From the diagram, I infer that you get 2 base-widths shooting if in effective range , 1 if outside.
In the diagram the shooters are in effective range and thus get 2 base widths shooting in addition to those directly in front of the enemy bases.

However on reading the text (bullet 1) it appears to contradict the diagram and IMHO makes little sense?
Richard, could you enlighten us here?

There is no error, although I agree that at first glance the diagram is misleading. If you use a straight edge along the join between the 1st and 2nd files of the archers you will see that the 2nd file overlaps the target BG. Therefore the 3rd file is (just) in arc of fire.

This was more obvious on the proof reading version, which was larger than the final printed version.

So within effective range only 1 base width can provide overlap shooting?

Your explanation of the printing format explains the confusion.

Correct, and this applies even if the overlappers are themselves at long range. (i.e. You can only count the long range arc of fire if all of the shooters in the BG are at long range).

Might be worth putting in something like a dotted line to make this clear, if the diagrams do get revised at some point.

and maybe adding this one to the errata, as the diagram did my head in when I first saw it too.
