This game is like......

Post by miffedofreading »

The most common comment I get from people who don't play these rules is "isn't FoG just like ....." Usually followed by WRG 6th edition!

HGaving read these rules over and over and hassled everyone on this forum, I would reluctantly have to say....

These rules are not very much like any other rules I have played or heard of at all!

Movement is a little different, melee and shooting are very different, Morale is different from other rules sets and I have never even heard of a set of rules that has a distinct impact phase where combat is resolved.

How can we get this message out to unbelievers?

Does it really matter? People are buying the rules and reading them and will make up their own minds.

I'd qualify your comment a bit - I find people are trying to relate some of the mechanisms to something familiar - so it could be: "ah, evading is similar to 7th edition - there is a risk you'll get caught with a variable move distance".

In some ways it is a good thing, as it is a bit comforting to be able to see something familiar - of course when you play you find it is not just Rule Set X + bits ... which is nice

I think its like 6th & 7th but with significantly different combat resolution mechanics.

Shock of Impact rules had a separate impact phase.

And they were aalmost exactly like 6th - but with a separate impact phase !

None of these are exactly a bad thing.

Being like 6th & 7th but without the horrifically complex morale tests, or the wildly over-important waver tests respectively, plus no recording of casulaties & no eengineering of impetuous charges is not too bad. Add in "appears to have been tested to bomb-proof status" and "looks pretty, lots of people are playing it" and its a fairly positive description!

The politburo will call you to answer for such heresy before the people's tribunal.
