[FDB] rev818 bRC6u03 [Feedback] Open beta preview
As promised, here's an open beta preview of FoG(U)'s current beta-test build, which is v1.8.12.818 bRC6u03. A proper (having an installer) open beta build will follow at the beginning of the next week, but it won't be different from this one.
Please remember that you can only use it with your current FoG(RB)'s (current FoG Digital version) serials and that you'll need an internet connection for authenticating the open beta build to Slitherine's server.
Enjoy it,
dan

what do you exactly mean by "you can't switch off the hexfields"?

I think Micha means the grid which for some reasons cannot be switched off.
BTW, is this the right place for bug reports? I've got several problems with the new version, the game is almost unplayable for me now.

The grid can be switched off by pressing G. It's in the readme file posted here and also included with the build.
For the moment, post reports in here, we'll have the beta forum open starting with Monday.

Does this over-write the current FoG program on my computer? I just want to make sure I don't alter my current program.

No it doesn't ( as long as you don't attempt to install in your original FOG folder!)
Just make a folder on your desktop named "betafog" (or something) d/l and extract the current version of the beta into that folder
I have no problems with the .RAR file, some other have had issues with the .EXE one

Good job!
Just played the Macedonians vs Indians starter scenario. Everything went ok, with no crashes during the gameplay (although FoG crashed when I tried to exit from the main menu, after I finished playing the scenario). After a long time without playing FoG, I don't remember the rules at all, but the battle results seemed correct. The UI could use some polish (eg, at some places the text does not fit the boxes and gets cut, and some boxes overlap each other).
I also checked briefly the editor. This also seems ok. The option to load a map at any time is just great! Not sure if I'm missing something, but I didn't see any kind of image preview when adding a new BG - just the name, which is usually not very informative.
I hope we will see a beta with AI soon!

Try a higher screen resolution maybe. I was having probs with bits cut off and moved up to 1280 x 800 and it seems fine now.

Re: [BLD] Open Beta Preview - v1.8.12.818 bRC6u03
Sorry for posting my report but now, I waited for more feedback to come or the opening of a bug report thread. I cannot understand why it's that silent here, I thought FOG(U) is the thing we all were waiting for.
As said above the game seemed almost unplayable for me first because of some problems I encountered, some of them may have to do with my less than 2 GB RAM ...
- First impression is good, clear layout etc. Love the new scenario menu, much better then the old one. Will there be map previews?
- I use my desktop resolution of 1680x1050/Graphics quality: Fastest. Game lags pretty much, haven't got more than 4,5 FPS. At the beginning of a scenario the BG graphics need some time to load completely and first appear as grey silhouettes. Seems that FOG(U) need more RAM than the old game. When I use 1280x768 resolution the lagging is not that bad but the BG graphics also load very slow - and look awful of course.
- The cursor's behaviour is a great pain - when I try to move the map it hectically jumps over it and sometimes hooks up somewhere in the dark grey nothingness around the map. IMO the map's borders should be the limits like in the old game.
- Tooltips ('H') does not work?
- No sounds except the music. (Or did I miss something?)
- Took just a short look at the editor. Miss the preview pictures for the battle groups. All seems a bit counterintuitive, but maybe I'm wrong and need more time to get used to it.
- Game crashes when I quit.

Not sure what Cothyso intended for the open public beta, there is a beta forum but im not sure its "open" unless you signed up for the beta....
I'm sure when he has time he will make it known when where to post bugs you find.

Re: [FDB] v1.8.12.818 bRC6u03 - Open Beta Preview
Good luck with this guys. I really hope that a lot of the issues in the original game are fixed. It was a fine product ... hope you make it much better!
I would love to help with beta testing but am swamped with other things at the moment (like beta testing Rommel-BA).
