Map color question

Post by Fintilgin »

Hi, I just picked up Gates of Troy and I've got a quick question.

If I start the campaigns that begin in 1500 or 1300 B.C. the 'world' map is a scorched orangey-brown color, that frankly I don't find terribly attractive. The burnt brown map gives the game a weirdly sterile and post-apocolytpic feeling.

If I start the Roman-Persian campaign the map is a nice, friendly green.

Why is this? I thought it might be a seasonal thing, but it doesn't seem to change over the few years I played.

Is there any way to play the ancient campaigns with the green map? Is this a bug? Can I copy something from the Roman map folder to 'fix' the ancient campaigns?

Thanks! :)

Apparently, yes, after some experimentation I've found you can copy the mapimage.cmf file from the Roman/Persian scenario and give the other two campaigns the much nicer 'green' map. I haven't noticed any bugs from doing so, anyway.

Letting people know in case anyone else wants to do the same. :)

Oh cool, that's clever! :)

I have definitely noticed the difference you mention, but never thought to look into modifying it.

Indeed it's working!
Just copy ..\Troy\data\maps\GCRomePersia\mapimage.cmf to the ..\Troy\data\maps\GCBasic\
Green map looks nice!
