Air interdiction

Post by 4p0int »

It would be nice to see in the next upgrade to be able to use air interdiction on roads and rail. Right now the only way to do so is with Para's, which is chancey at best, and with the new rail movement rules it becomes another tactic to use against it. If you park a fighter or fighter bomber and cap( combat air patrol) on a rail or road hex or both, any enemy unit entering that hex would have to take fire from the cap, take the losses(if any)and if they do take losses, they have to end their movement at that hex. if not, they just lose 1 movement point. With trains, if the engine is destroyed the unit would have to disembark at that spot along with the losses. Naturely there would be a difference in combat odds if the ground units are using the road movement bonus, for they would be in a column formation. in muddy conditions this would be a great tactic to use to slow reinforcement to a break thru or counter attack, and also make the use of mobile AA more important, for the cap would have to take defence fire before the attack. And if you have a multi unit column and the lead unit is forced to halt all other proceeding units would lose 1 movement point at that hex to pass thru the wreckage. this would also have an affect on any future up grades for supply, as in terms of lost supply points( if any), or no supply at all thru that hex. Also, there seems to be no movement bonus for ground units when using rail in muddy weather, but we all know that it may not be as fast as a road, but it still would be faster, but they would have to be column formation, so ambush and cap would give higher losses. Would like to see that movement upgraded as well, as the MANUAL does not address rail and road movement, just clear. Plus the air unit would have to spend extra fuel points per turn to maintain the cap, and in cloudy weather, if you can't see the ground the cap is ineffective, as well if the cap is being attacked by a enemy aircraft. Just an Idea. :)
