Cost of Swedish

Hi,
In the Errata sheet it says to delete the sentence where it says you must shoot at the armoured pike (P 122) of a Swedish Brigade. This gives you a minus for shooting at long range. If the Swedes no longer have this advantage the do they still have to pay the 4 points for being a Swedish Brigade?

Yes - they still pay the additional 4pts. This is rationalised by RBS as Swedish brigades still have the following advantages:

1) 3 hits are required to cause a Cohesion Test when the BG is at full strength.
2) Swedish brigades can have a 3 base deep central file without being an easier target for artillery.
3) Swedish brigades lose 2 pike bases before losing any shot bases, thus maintaining their firepower longer than other BGs.

Hi,
I can understand his rational but as you pay for the pike the only thing you actually get for the 4 points is that artillery cannot target them specifically.

Yes, you pay for the pike, but nobody else gets a 7 base BG, everyone else has to buy a 9 base LT to get more than 6 bases. LTs generally do not seem good value compared to 6 base P+S BGs.

The ability to remove 2 pike bases before losing any shot is also good as it means that your firepower stays at full strength longer.

I don't agree but never mind. We will still defeat Wally and his BFF Papy on our refight of Lutzen the week after next. I'm just happy that as a refight it is not based on a points system.
