Re: New 3d warships - Cruiser, Destroyer, Minesweeper
I'm know I'm being uberpicky, but please could you lift the light cruiser slightly...
so that we can see a little more of the band of red on the lower hull (to match our other warships,
although perhaps some of our other ships, eg. the carrier, destroyer, minesweeper, should be lowered more, so that there's not too much red hull, visible rudder, etc...)
Sorry for my OCD!!

Monsieur Alex!!
You realise we've now got...
1x Carrier
1x Battleship (use the cruiser model)
1x Heavy cruiser (use the light cruiser model)
1x Light cruiser (use the destroyer model)
1x Destroyer (use the minesweeper model)
1x Sub
3x freighter/tanker/transport models
3x carrier-borne aircraft models (Val, Zero, Corsair)
My wife (and credit card company) insist we stop there...
But that's got to be enough for some serious fun and mayhem... right?
On y va!!

I'll see the size of the ships this week end; I'm actual at work and normally 3DSMAX isn't a professional software for me...
But you have trapped me: how not to go to 3D now?
I admit that it's very nice and it gives furiously want to sink an enemy fleet.
Héhé I know that. When she saw 3DSMAX on my computer I thought my last hour had come. But I was able to tell her that it was a trial version before a fatal issue.GottaLove88s wrote:My wife (and credit card company) insist we stop there...![]()

Now that I've got you convinced... All we need to do is to convince Pip, Iain & Andrew... and then let's create the best and baddest Pacific scenarios that the boys can fight!!
(Bon courage at the office monsieur... No, but are you seriously working...?!)

Thinking ahead... I guess we'll need two versions of every ship... A good version, and a second version with darkened texture and vertical height lower in the water to show damage...
Except the submarine which just sinks and is gone forever...?

Re: New 3d warships - Cruiser, Destroyer, Minesweeper
I've PM'ed Tim1966 to find out how he added his Albatross and Sopwith Camel biplane animations to his brilliant WW1 scenarios...
to see if we can plug in our 3D Zero, Val and Corsair the same way...
I imagine a bombing run of an Aichi D3A1 Val attacking one of our battleships or cruisers above would look mighty fine...
Ditto for a Corsair strafing that Jap tanker... or attacking your adaptation of a wooden flight-decked IJN flat top...
Fingers crossed!

Well if I can do some basic thing with 3DSMAX, I guess I'll NOT do be able to do animations for ships, aircrafts, subs, ...
But I'll try to modify the carrier to do a Japanese carrier :

I need to work even texture but the result is already not too bad.

Re: New 3d warships - Cruiser, Destroyer, Minesweeper
Hey Amaris, that's starting to look like a flat top alright...
I guess the IJN Akagi is closest in shape to the USN Essex class carrier that we're using... I've attached a high-res 2d jpeg of the Akagi's wooden deck, showing its aircraft lifts and the huge red rising sun... I wonder if we could rescale this 2d jpeg and map it to the Essex texture somehow?
Can you spray the 3 Mitsubishi Zeros in the IJN sky grey/white colour scheme? They'll stand out better on Akagi's yellow/brown wooden flight deck...
(And this can definitely wait until the weekend, but both of the carriers need to be slightly deeper into the water, to show less of the red lower hull and rudder at the back... also true of our destroyer and minesweeper, I think... Our light cruiser could be raised to show more red hull... See below image of Akagi at sea, with sky grey paint scheme IJN Zero)

Hi Amaris
When max 30 day trial have run out, try Gmax on turosquid it free http://www.turbosquid.com/gmax. Its based on max version 4 and was a slightly cut down version for games.
I did a mod for Gmax , a while ago, of the slitherine max 3sf exporter for it with instructions https://docs.google.com/file/d/0BzYnp9A ... sp=sharing
It can import 3ds and there are obj plugins and other available.

Amaris... I was thinking more about how we could use our funky new 3D aircraft...
Do you remember the mod you created to permit LCT (landing craft tanks) to carry up to 3 ground units... Could we do the same with carriers? Permit each carrier to carry up to 4 aircraft units?
Each aircraft unit (eg. an IJN Zero, USN Corsair, IJN Val or USN Avenger) would start their turns with a certain number of AP points which players could use to 'fly', square by square, to scout out areas of the map, or to attack adjacent enemy units, or to transfer to a new base. Bombers enjoy more AP (range) than fighters. And all aircraft must end their turns either on a friendly carrier, or at a friendly airbase.
Fire from defending AA units (destroyers, light cruisers, whatever the US & Jap static equivalents of 88s were) reduces morale and/or removes shots from attacking aircraft, but would not affect their AP, so they can still get back to their bases (unless they're actually shot down).
That would make airpower controllable, informative (scouting), and effective (attacking adjacent units that have to be moved to)... Similar to NAM, carriers with fighter units on board, with >10 AP remaining, would protect (reduce any air assault damage to) neighbouring units within a set radius...
Theoretically is that workable?

I think that airplanes should have 1 or 2 Turns in the Sky. If they don't return to Refuel they fall out. As for AA Guns I think they should be able to shoot down Planes. I'm curious on how dogfighting will work.
as for amount on a Carrier I think there should be about 8 Planes a Carrier. 10-12 for Airbases. As they are Aircraft they get ridiculous AP. perhaps we make something called "clouds" that hide your aircraft from enemy units. That's just my opinion thought. I'm sure other have more to share.

Are we only using Carrier Based Airplanes? I'd be interested to have a B-17 flying around....
