Televising games

Post by ulysisgrunt »

There is now a miniature wargaming channel available for streaming on the ROKU, and I imagine computers.

Is the time near when we can view various games in leagues and tournaments?

Digital FOG would be ideal.....

What? Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!

How could it possibly work, from a viewer perspective? :)

It seems to me it'd be pretty boring to watch someone playing, unless they themselves explain everything they do at the same time. I mean, it's FOG, a turn based strategy game where the player more likely than not spends more time thinking than actually doing things. Imagine the mouse just running around the screen as the player simulates his moves in his mind, without actually doing anything interesting on the screen. Would be weird.

Or is this something completely different from what I think it is?

Do you mean something like this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dk1cWbKkLKQ

The guy is very new to the game (hence the horrendous tactics) but the clip is strangely compelling. If two players could meld their videos together into a complete commentary of a MP battle I would watch it.

I haven't seen the clip linked, but this reminds me of a program called "The Master Game" which was on the TV in UK in the late 70s, which covered about 8 (or 16?) top chess players in a TV tournament and along with seeing them move you heard their thoughts (spoken and added after the event I'd guess) and it was both compelling and insightful for a someone who had just started playing competitive chess. If top FoG players played games like this I'd watch them!
