Question from a 'newbie'
Hi,
I'm new to this website and was wondering if someone could offer me some advice.
I was thinking of purchasing Panzer Corps then noticed that Allied Corps has recently been released.
Having played Panzer General in the past, would it be better to play Panzer Corps first and then move on to Allied Corps?
One other question: apart from the obvious, could someone tell me what are the essential differences between the two products.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Kind regards,
Red Tail 10!

Re: Question from a 'newbie'
Welcome aboard, Red Tail 10!
Relative to Panzer General, in very general terms: Panzer Corps is very much like Panzer General. Allied Corps is like Allied General, but not to the same degree: Allied Corps includes only the Western Allies (there is no Soviet campaign) and the player can create a mixed core of American and British units.
Relative to one another: Allied Corps incorporates quite a few important changes in gameplay introduced after the release of Panzer Corps. These include minefields and a variety of changes to game mechanics designed to discourage the deployment of cores dominated by 15-strength heavy tanks and jet fighters. As far as I know, some of these changes are not (yet) backward-compatible with the original ("vanilla") Panzer Corps.
If you want to begin with the product that will be most familiar to a PG veteran, then Panzer Corps is your best bet. If you prefer to leap directly to the latest incarnation of the Panzer Corps series, then go with Allied Corps. You will have fun either way.

Hi Robman,
Thanks for the welcome and the excellent response which sheds more light on the subject.
I'll have to give it some thought...
Thanks again!

Re: Question from a 'newbie'
I own Panzer Corps, Afrika Korps, Allied Corps and DLC's 39, 40, 41, 42-43 West, 44 West & 45 West. My recommendation would be to buy Allied Corps, the DLC Mega pack and start playing. That will give you two theaters and both axis and allies to play. While I own AK I haven't played it yet since I enjoy the DLCs and AC.

Hi GSlapshot,
Buying Allied Corps and the DLC Mega pack, providing me with two theatres of operation and both axis and allies to play, sounds like a great idea!
Thanks for the advice - much obliged!

You'll end buying all the expansions...
It's just a question of time and sequence.

Re: Question from a 'newbie'
Just be sure to pace yourself, that is a lot of content to play through! Each DLC is almost as long as the base games.

Hi Kerensky,
Wise words - will do!
Given all the great advice, on balance, I think I'll start with Allied Corps and then take it from there.
Thanks guys - all your advice was very helpful.

Re: Question from a 'newbie'
As you enjoyed PG and that brought you looking here, as many of us did. I can say it doesnt matter what you buy first to start with youll be hooked!! But as AC is the latest game out, so most talked about on the forum right now, id say start there, that way any questions you have will be about what most of us are plaing right now. NOT that there arent others gaming the other campiagns. But this place has a great group, whatever you chose you can be sure youll get help qucikly here should you need it. We gamers seem to just love talking about our games lol

Re: Question from a 'newbie'
Well to differ from the advice given above, I would start with the Panzer Corps, then the DLC's (all 10) then add Afrika Korps, then the Allied Corps. When you are finished with these, should be ready with Soviet Corps!

Re: Question from a 'newbie'
I downloaded the demo, played a couple of turns, decided I wanted the game. Then I bought Afrika Korps. I intended to buy the German GLC set next, but have not yet finished with Afrika Korps. Panzer Corps Wehrmacht seems a bit unnecessary to me since I will eventually get the DLCs. Of course, by the time I am through with Afrika Korps I may change my mind and go for Allied Corps.
Your mileage may vary. I have long considered North Africa one of the most interesting WW2 theaters, so going for AK first was an easy decision for me.

Re: Question from a 'newbie'
Hi Anfield, Victor_K and Danhanegan,
Thanks for your valid comments and insights.
I had made my mind up last night to start with Allied Corps, then early this morning I was rummaging through my books and came across one I had forgotten I had, entitled - 'German Campaigns of World War II' by Chris Bishop and Adam Warner. It comes with a an overview of each of the major campaigns - complete with colour maps illustrating German planning and movements - both on land and at sea.
So, I thought this book would help to inform and put each of the campaigns into context... yep, you've guessed it, that's swayed me back to Panzer Corps.
Man, this indecisiveness does not bode well for my success in playing Panzer Corps! LOL!
Thanks chaps!

Re: Question from a 'newbie'
My recommendation is to buy Panzer Corps and play The Grand Campaign and Grand Campaign East first. These battles represent where the 'blitzkrieg' tactic was first utilized effectively. This revolutionary "combined arms" doctrine carries through to today as in use in modern armies. Each weapon system first used by the WWII German army were the progenitors of weapons systems in use by the USA and Allies today. The Grand Campaign and East Campaign allow the longest timeline development of your core units and equipment upgrades and where you will encounter the most numerous allowance or numbers of units!
Afrika is MUCH more challenging and can be very discouraging to inexperienced commanders.
Core units from your early years successful East campaign can be imported as experienced units into the West '42/'43+ campaigns.
The Allies did so well not because of their superior quality of their units (that goes to the Germans) but more their numbers and quantities of equipment, supplies and logistics.
Yes, you can start off with Allied Corps but why not go to where it all began?!

Hi,
Thanks for the vote of confidence Anfield.
Well, I just hope my troops feel the same way - Panzer Corps is on its way!!
By the way, thanks for your thoughts Wargovichr. I particularly agree with your comment: "why not go to where it all began?!" I was also thinking along similar lines.
Cheers chaps!

Hi Chaps,
The Eagle has landed!
The turn-around from ordering Panzer Corps to delivery was less than 24 hours - pretty impressive!
I think it could be a long night ahead!
Cheers
