Historicon 2013

Post by BillMc »

Historicon 2013 is July 18 to 21 (Thursday through Sunday) in Fredericksburg, Virginia. http://historicon.org/index.asp

It is time to start planning what kind of FOG AM tournaments we want to have. Polls are officially open for ideas/suggestions. I have to have the registration form in by 15 April, so we need to decide fairly soon.

I think the basic starting point is that it will be FOG Ancient and Medieval - Version 2. Other than that, I welcome your suggestions.

Questions to ponder:

1. How many tournaments? Could be as many as three (3).

a. Thursday afternoon/evening.
b. Friday.
c. Saturday

2. How many points?

3. Any Themes?

4. Table size?

5. Any twists (doubles, teams, pairs, etc)?

Also, though I am on the hook to plan the events, I will not be able to attend this year (yea, that suks). So, I will be looking for volunteers to be player/refs.

Thanks,

Bill (the new stuckee for planning these things)

Will you be playing, JD? I want my shot at revenge for a DBM game many, many years ago. :)

I just sent in the FOG-AM information for Historicon.

Sneak peak:

Friday:
FOG-AM: Greater Dark Ages Theme - on 5'x3' tables. Best 3 out of 4 scores.
9 AM to 11 PM; One version of a legal 800 pt. list from any published FOG AM army list - but time period is restricted to be between 500 AD and 1149 AD. Table size for 15mm will be on 5'x3, 25mm (if enough show to play) will be on 6'x4'.
There will be four 3 hour rounds. Your best 3 scores/results will be used to determine the winner.
Round 1: 9 AM, Round 2: 12:30 PM, Round 3: 4 PM, Round 4: 7:30 PM
Keep your best three out of four scores. Additional round scores will only be used in case of a tie for first place.

Saturday:
FOG-AM: Open
9 AM to 11 PM; One version of a legal 900 pt. list from any published FOG AM army list - any time period.
Table size will be 6'x4' for 15mm and 8'x5' for 25mm (if enough show to play).
There will be three 3.5 hour rounds.
Round 1: 9 AM, Round 2: 2:30 PM, Round 3: 7 PM.

Looks like we are headed to a strong turnout.

Pretty clear that Bunnies from Bama and other gulf southers are coming. Rumors of Ohio too. Could be a very good turnout.

Jeff Fletcher and I will be coming in for sure, not sure about Doug Anderson (who played DBM last year). We'll be playing R on Thursday, not sure about Friday and hopefully playing 25mm on Saturday. I do have a 15mm army from my DBM days, however a) I play only once a year b) I haven't played a single game of 2.0 and c) I usually start drinking around 10:00 (that's am), so I'd be no more than a speed bump for most of the 15mm crowd.

It turns out that Early Byzantines are a poor army choice in a period with a shit-ton of Normans. I played Normans in round 1, followed by Normans in round 2, and--just to keep it fresh--Italo-Normans in round 3. In the final round I played Nikephorian Byzantine, but they had a BG of Norman KN. Uggh.

It was, by far, the worst tournament performance of my life. At least I did tolerably well in the FoG:R the day before.

C'mon Marc.

You could have had more points if you sacked your own camp.

I think you're glicko rating will be driven down to Brad "I am decimating my Polybians" Dunlap level.

We said that a year ago. Then we said that in January at the Team and then we said that... and then we said that.

But marc does not listen.
