Remove dead line of sight.

Cavehobbit, it won't affect us. Our plan is not to get any units killed. :D

I suspect that's my most controversial mod just now... With the mod, if a unit is killed, it loses its field of vision as soon as the next unit moves... Previously, by BA default, dead units continued to provide line of sight up until the end of the turn that they died. Which makes it darned hard to hide one's assaults... So far, 'removing dead unit LOS' is only rolled out in Dieppe...

If nobody strongly objects, I'd like to roll it out across GJS'44...
After some testing I really like this mod. Roll it out!

Alas my vacation in Paris and France has come to an end  I'm about to board the plane home! Luckily I made some progress with some Frenchie I met when I introduced myself a few blocks away from the Effiel Tower. Got a "friendly" peck on the cheek and she ran off. I smiled to myself because some one at home owes me 50$ Bucks  but since most of you men are married you don't have time for my shenanigans :P (luckily I wasn't using Rangers false translations with her or to any Government officials or I would be in Big Trouble in little Paris) as I return I plan on beating the Allies back into the Sea (Im looking for vengeance against Ranger for those translations) so I hope you got LOTS of replacements because ill chew em up then spit then back out

Today at 2:40PM German and British Forces agreed on a CeaseFire and all (remaining) German Forces were allowed to leave the Battlefield unharmed. An epic battle ensued on the beach and the interior of the BattleField. (Morge don't surrender I just asked you a question and will take screenshots of the epic battle were in the end the Allies ultimately won[BTW don't try and take the Cassino whatever forces you have left wont be able to take on the final defenses I have placed the only reason I asked for the ceasefire was to save lives on both sides :)])

Ok... Even thought we agreed to stop fighting me and Morge are still firing with neither of us being able to exploit our victories. He has more infantry but with no armour support my MGs are ripping him apart. I have more vehicles but I'm using them to evacuate suppressed VolksGrenadiers from their current positions (even if I push him to the beach his Naval Forces will smash mine) so each if us control the starting VPs on each side(I had Roger Red but he took it back :()

Ah contraire, we still appreciate and enjoy hearing about the frustrations and successes of those who have yet to join the ranks of the matrimonially augmented.

Ahem.. I did not provide you with translations. I provided you with complete french phrases that could have been used by any tourist visiting Paris. They were tailored just for you.
I did not include their English translations because I did not want to make an already long post longer, and also because you already speak english. I did however provide 2 links to Google translator for those interested (I assumed that would have included you).
My advice that you could "trust me", and as such, and "your translation efforts unnecessary", was either a joke or an elaborate Allied ploy to have an enemy commander removed from the field of battle, by the fine people of France.

For the benefit of those following this thread, I've selected a few of the english translations of the french phrases I provided LM:
Introductions
- I come from the same place as the seven time winner of the Tour de France.
- Lance is my hero.
- What's the big deal? It's just a bike race.
- I play Battle Academy and I always play the side of the Boshe (Germans).
- I love the Boshe (Germans).

At the restaurant/bar/cafe:
- Waiter, do you have any wines that are not French?

Phrases you may need if you use the ones above:
-No officer, I do not know why I was attacked. Of course, I did nothing to provoke the crowd. Are all police in Paris as stupid as you or are you more stupid?
-Why are you so angry? .... What??? ..... Hey! My elbow does not bend like that! Ouch! Why are you putting my hands behind my back?
- These handcuffs are tight. Where are you taking me? Oh my god, I have to pee.
LandMarine47 wrote: as I return I plan on beating the Allies back into the Sea (Im looking for vengeance against Ranger for those translations) so I hope you got LOTS of replacements because ill chew em up then spit then back out
As I mentioned in my PM, I maintain that had you shared my list of phrases, with any french cutie, who was even slightly interested in you, explaining to her that it was given to you and you don't know their meaning, and asked her for her assistance in translating into english, and/or asked her opinion of the french phrases I provided you, she would have thought you are a funny guy and/or been setup.
I realize in hindsight that the truth is, my list of phrases was "ice breaking gold" that could have gotten you speaking to, and interacting with any available french cutie who was interested enough in you to attempt to dredge up whatever english she learned at school so she could communicate with you. Of course the rest would have been up to you.
You can only lead a horse to water, you can't make it drink.

LandMarine47 wrote:Now this is an off topic question but I always wanted to know.... Who is your favorite WW2 Commander? My hat goes to Erwin Rommel. Greatest Commander in the German Arsenal and most Humanine. When he received the order to execute all British Spec Ops he threw it away. Respected by friend and foe he deserves the name "The Desert Fox"
I can't just name one.

An incomplete list off the top of my head: Sosabowski, Horrocks, Dowding, Gavin, Darby, Merrill, Rommel, Patton, Ridgeway, Lovat, Eisenhower (believe it or not), and a lot of others both Axis and Allied.

Perhaps excepting Eisenhower, All these commanders were leaders of men who were and/or would have been marginalized in peace time. They were men of honor and integrity who met the challenges presented to them by combining daring with innovation. None of them suffered fools or idiots.
Why is Eisenhower on my list? His mission took priority over his ego. As Supreme Commander, he was responsible building and leading a cohesive coalition force and he succeeded. He successfully herded cats and enabled the talent to get the job done.

So what does this mean?
- the tournament is over? :( or
- everyone is taking a break? :|
- or what? :|

Since I'm new to this, I'm curious about how this "CeaseFire" transpired? :)
- Direct communications between Axis High Commander and the Allied Supreme Commander?
or
- Back channel commo between local Axis and Allied commanders currently engaged in hostilities?
or
- GM decided?
or
- Default protocal when communications break down?

Just curious...

Thomas

It's when the battle goes badly for one side they ask the player for a cease fire. When accepted the battle ends as a draw. However you must consult your commanding officers first and if your team does not accept the battle goes on. When so many or all units on the other side are when the battle ends that BG is disbanded and destroyed. And this is not a tournament. It's just a random battle me and Morge are having.

The current issue in GJS'44 Campaign is that there is no active Allied Supreme Commander. Jon C seems to have disappeared for the time being, and nobody on our side seems to have the bandwidth to replace him as Supreme Cheese. I tried to talk Mike into drafting something that I could then edit but he's as busy as I am too, lol.

So, my conclusion is, Allies are in search of a new Supreme Commander if there are any takers, please PM me and Cavehobbit. Thanks.
I will also pm Jon C again and see if he responds? His last visit onto the forums was 23 May 2013 17:08

Hey guys, Here's a working proposal...

Ranger can temporarily replace JonCorcuera as Allied Commander until we hear from him (I've emailed and PM'ed with no response so far, but I believe CaveHobbit & Ranger have also done the same?)

CaveHobbit should continue as German Commander.

Jcb989 & K9mike will be awesome aides-de-camp to keep Ranger on track and get him up to speed.

Others to remain on their current teams for now (as below, from recent Roll Call) but we need Allied recruits (or possibly a defector? ;-))

GERMANS - Cavehobbit*, Honour79, LandMarine47, Mlazar, Morge4 (RnR)
ALLIES - Ranger*, Jcb989, K9mike (occasional), Hidde (RnR)

How long do folks need to get their draft orders in? 8)

I've let Ranger have the latest map and OOB. With help from Jcb989 and K9mike the Allies should come up with orders for June 11th. Jon, did I sent you the German orders?

Hello All,

I've just shared some tentative plans etc with the Allies team on our private team forum. I'm hoping to receive some feedback, wisdom, sage advice etc in time to incorporate into the final orders for this turn.

Gottalove88s, is Sunday 1200hrs PST (-8GMT) too late to get orders to you? Let me know and I'll adjust accordingly.

Let me know...

Cheers,

Thomas

Take your time Ranger... I've got exams July 4-5th, so until then for your final version is fine...
Get to know your team mates. Brainstorm ideas... Then send me some drafts for can we/can't we type questions...
Use Jcb & Mike... They'll have a lot of good stuff to say! ;-)
