ACHTUNG SPOILERS!!: If you're having difficulty with Dieppe but still want to try to solve it for yourself... STOP READING NOW!!
But for those who have surrendered too often and need a little help, read on. I will take this post down later (so please don't quote it anyone)... THANKS

Mein Gott! Von where did all these Tommies come??!!

As dawn breaks... a Royal Navy destroyer force lays a thick wall of smoke... preventing reaction fire from coastal guns, to hide thirty (yup, that's 30 gentlemen ;-)) Allied troops assaulting the beach... Smoke also blocks German visual on the attacking troops, so defenders cannot target an effective bombard, without exposing their infantry spotters to murderous reaction fire...

The most threatening 152mm coastal gun, in the easterly bunker by Puys village, lies dead and idle... taken out by the adjacent Royal Marine platoon...

Meanwhile, the transports that have successfully landed, sail across the German line of fire, to draw out the locations of hidden defenders... Heads down!! Here come the B17s!!

This is a real game versus a human opponent... I won't say who, but it's fair to say that they know the game and the map... and they're a darned good player... This tactic isn't the only one that works but it's worked twice for me now... so it should work for you too... Sure, there are other strategies, but you don't want ALL the answers, do you?

See you at the Casino lads? Put ten francs on 8 black for the Colonel...

You should put this on the 1st Post so people don't have to cycle all the way back here

Nah, it's only up temporarily for those of us who are actually playin' the darned scenario... Soon to be deleted... Everyone who comes later is going to have to figure out the delights of Blue Beach for themselves... Otherwise, Dieppe becomes too easy for the Allies, and it's more fun to crack the challenge without help...

I've tried the blue beach landing a few times and seem to get run down too much to make it inland.. but that is usually where I land

I'll PM you Jcb... I'm not going to post absolutely all of the answers here... Smoke helps. Force concentration helps. Simultaneous B17 & Blenheim drops help. Taking out 152mm's before dawn helps. Using destroyers to take out German armour helps... Experiment my friend!!

That's basically what I mean, I wasn't complaining lol, I've tried a few variants over there; smoke, no smoke, etc. I landed a big force once but the other times was unlucky with aerial recon from the jerries, they found us and all the coastals opened up lol...

Ah!! That's not possible any more... No Luftwaffe (or RAF or USAAF) before dawn in v1.1... Aerial spotters can't see you at night... You'll find it a piece of cake now...

Sorry... As soon as somebody (Landmarine or Ranger probably) pointed out my lunacy of permitting air force spotters at night, this was quickly remedied in v1.1...

The other (pretty critical) mod/fix that helps the Allies is the removal of 'dead unit line of sight (LOS)'... so when a Royal Navy destroyer sinks a German freighter, the dead freighter is no longer able to radio its 152mm friends where you were, or what other units you then chose to sail over the top of its watery grave... You'll like this (unless you're the Germans)...

It's still a problem that the German Navy will find you at some point and radio his 152 friends. I say bait then out with some false smoke (like what GL88's did to me)

Smoke is never false. No smoke without fire support, lol... You just need to put it in all of the 'right' places...

You guys should try white beach tactics I used early in the mod. If you can get the Germans off your track you will have an entire naval force on the beach in no time :) I did this in 1.02

White Beach seems harder to pull off than Blue Beach (for me, at least) but from your screenshots, looks like it's doable...
Nice one, LandMarine!

Btw I'm curious why are you using North Africa and Normandy Skins? Isn't there something you can do to change the icon to Blitz France. Sorry for giving you some more work but my perfectionism and keeping things tidy makes me crazy sometimes lol.

Dieppe's German 3d vehicles were all reskinned in the Wehrmacht 1940-42 urban colour scheme

Yup, me too... BA does seem to induce many of us to reach into our darkest perfectionist selves...

Not sure if it's possible to change BA's 2d labels/icons to Dunkelgrau too... Any ideas anyone?

I think you have to change a file of some sorts to Blitz France. May have to start a forum on tech support

This was an indirect way of announcing that the Germans proposed an unconditional surrender of Dieppe, which was formally accepted by the Colonel at the Casino...

Due to an intervention by Minister of Propoganda & National Enlightenment, Herr Dr Goebbels, the Germans apparently released an earlier KIAs screen that missed the loss of their last tank, their last two Flk 10/4 AA trucks, and two infantrymen, who bailed out of their sandbags during the final hour of the defence...

The Panzerdivision Kommandant was heard to complain that Royal Marine commandos appeared to be armed with different weapons and using different tactics to the Russian peasants he had become used to fighting... and he considered this grossly unfair and outside the rules of war...

Sure, Colonel GL88 (RM) captured the town but, nope, he still lost on 8 black...
