Unbalanced tutorial and balancing in general

Post by AP59 »

I'm a newcomer and did the tutorial on the lowest level and struggled a bit at the end, so I did some more reading and I tried it again and was able to finish it in a satisfying way.

I then started the campaign using the same difficulty level, since that level had given me a nice challenge. It was a mistake; the game became really boring, absolutely NO challenge. I gained more XP in the first scenario than all 4 tutorial scenarios combined. I was hoping that the next scenarios would be tougher, but it only gets easier and by the time I finished England I had an enormous amount of XP and I just gave up.

Sure, I could restart the campaign from the start with a higher difficulty level, but it's no fun to do the whole thing all over again, so I'm having a break from the game right now. It's strange that this issue, most likely noticed by every new player, was never fixed in all those patches.

This leads me to a question; I'm more and more getting the feeling that I will end up not gaining enough experience at one point, which would force me to do the campaign all over or that I would gain too much XP which would remove any challenge and make the game boring. Are there any game mechanics that avoid this?

Custom difficulty might work for you, maybe set your prestige gain to something below 100% and the AI level to 2. Or increase the amount of prestige the enemy can gain.

I don't remember the difference between the tutorial and the standard campaign anymore but I really suggest you try the custom difficulty to prevent the game becoming to easy. I played the first standard campaign at quite low difficulty I've replayed it many times on higher difficulty for me that was part of the fun.

With the latest patch you can also easily change the difficulty after a scenario has ended. so you don't have to replay all previous scenarios in case you find them either too easy or they turned out too hard.

Thanks guys, I guess I have to wait for the next patch to a arrive, because the reason I didn't install 1.20 is because there seem to be some issues with it according to a few posts on this forum.

There are some issues with the custom rules and difficulty for the DLC's only with the 1.20 patch, the standard campaign aswell the Afrika and Allied Corps campaigns should work correctly.

I found the tutorial very useful when I first played, but of course I did play older similar games a million times.
